The Machinist performs various skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the repair and maintenance of machinery, Lathe operator to manually produce parts from raw materials like metal or plastic, brazing, soldering, and plumbing. Will set up, adjust and maintain assigned equipment with responsibility for production and quality on this equipment. Starts up and shuts down equipment in line with company safety procedures for equipment under power and OSHA guidelines.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Programming: Use blueprints and sketches to set the raw materials. Perform machine operations such as turning, boring, threading and facing.Manufacturing: Turn, mill, drill, shape, and grind parts to specifications, perform routine inspections of equipment.Quality control: Inspect and test parts for defects and compliance with quality standards Maintenance: Calibrate machines, repair and replace equipment, and perform preventive maintenance Safety: Adhere to safety protocols and regulations Documentation: Complete production and quality logs, and document actions to maintain continuity between shifts Training: Train operators as needed Communication: Work with the maintenance department to improve machining processes
OPERATIONAL COMMUNICATIONS
Knowledge concerning complex electrical and mechanical principles. Must have considerable knowledge of the practice, methods, tools, equipment and materials of the electrical trade. Must be aware of the occupational hazards of the electrical trade and the necessary safety precautions. Knowledge of applicable electrical codes. Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment of the trade. Able to mentally visualize and comprehend all aspects of a manufacturing equipment or tooling problems, understand the inter-relationships of factors affecting a given situation and to be attentive to detail. Capable of efficiently integrating existing methods with innovations to solve production problems in a timely manner. Has initiative and ability to work effectively with little direction. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and management staff. Self-motivated with good problem-solving skills.
QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS
3-7 years of Industrial Maintenance experience necessary.Previous knowledge of machinery used in polyethylene film manufacturing a plusBackground in a lead three of the following welding, machinist, mechanic, electrical, plumbing, pipefitting or maintenance.Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical blueprints to plan setup and operation of all types of machine shop tool to include a Ganesh Lathe, KBC Lathe and a Vectrax drill press. Knowledge concerning mechanical and electrical principles and machining practices. Knowledgeable concerning modern fabrication and assembly techniques and machine-shop practices and techniques.Able to mentally visualize and comprehend all aspects of a manufacturing equipment or tooling problems, understand the inter-relationships of factors affecting a given situation, and to be attentive to detail.Proficient at using electrical testing equipment to troubleshoot and repair equipment malfunctions.LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, write, understand and communicate in English. Able to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Must have very good mathematical skills with abilities to use electrical measuring and gauging tools.

SAFETY

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions on this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts and live electrical components. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to very loud. An essential part of this position is to work in a teamwork environment. The employee is continuously exposed to temperature variances, extreme heat during the Spring and Summer and cold temperatures during the Winter.
