MACHINIST III
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE MACHINIST III
Able to operate most work centers safely within the machinist area based on instructions from the leadership team with minimal supervision/guidance. Perform the machining of test specimens and parts as required. Operate manual and CNC equipment such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders. Daily simple maintenance and cleaning of assigned equipment. Inform supervision of all safety, quality, and production concerns as needed, recommend improvement opportunities. Perform all other duties/projects as assigned, including the possibility to move outside of the machinist to support business needs.REQUIRED FOR THE MACHINIST III
High school diploma or GED required. Vocational school or Machinist Apprenticeship preferred. Five or more years of experience. Works on tasks independently using established procedures. Acts as a resource to others for instruction, guidance, and direction. Ensures a safe workplace. Promotes ways to improve the quality of life and protect the environment in the communities in which the Company does business. Working knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures. Working knowledge of shop mathematics, machinability of materials, and layout techniques. Understand safe operation of all equipment needed to perform the job. Experience with Okuma, Kellenberger, DCM, Toyoda, Hurco, Mitsubishi, Okamoto, Jones and Shipman preferred. CNC programming preferred Knowledge of continuous improvement concepts. Responds to customer needs; seeks guidance on issues outside own area. Prioritizes and organizes own work to meet agreed upon deadlines. Solves moderately complex problems; makes recommendations to improve standard procedures and/or processes. Anticipates and understands customer needs and identifies solutions to nonstandard requests from internal or external customers. Manages one’s own time to meet objectives and is proactive by offering help to others. Contributes to the achievement of team goals within own area or department. Ability to provide training/guidance to all members of the team. Ability to operate a personal computer and the related hardware and software. Ability to lift and move test coupons weighing up to 50 lbs. Ability to be a team player and promote continuous improvement. Ability to work in a production-oriented environment.
