Machinist Supervisor
The Senior Mechanical Research Designer is responsible for the development and evaluation of design criteria, processes, instrumentation, and equipment in the Department of Biological Science. Collaborates with faculty and staff on design and specifications to determine required resources for instrumentation and equipment. Fabricates new and/or existing devices for research. Implements design changes when required.
Responsibilities include:
Performing highly technical instrumentation design for faculty research.
Selecting, modifying, and/or adapting equipment/instruments or procedures to specific project requirements. Consulting with faculty and staff to determine the proper requirements for the project so that preliminary decisions can be fabricated.
Creating engineering designs to machine, construct, fabricate and assemble complex instruments or devices for research.
Carrying projects through to satisfactory completion including prototypes, test runs, and modifications. Coordinating activities of other technical personnel involved in project completion.
Coordinating installation of new or modified equipment, when necessary.
Implementing accepted safety policies and procedures in all work performed.
Seeking to enhance and/or improve engineering procedures to stay abreast of current technical developments as necessitates by the increasing complexity of departmental equipment.
Maintaining relationships with other shops and their personnel in the event research construction must be coordinated with those shops.
Supervising the Technical Research Designer; responsible for hiring, training and evaluation.

Salary ranges from $55,000-65,000 depending on experience.
