Produces small batches or large quantities of metal parts and ensure products meet precise specifications **Essential Functions:** + Operate all machine tools in assigned shop including lathes, milling machines, drill press, surface grinder, etc. for + the fabrication of machine tooling and repair of equipment. + Read and work from detailed blueprints to a tolerance of ±0.0001". + Participate in and support self-directed work team activities including training and receiving direction from the + shop coordinator. + Work with more experienced machinist to understand production machinery in order to effectively diagnose + problems and design, fabricate, and install corrective solutions. + Ability to learn to diagnose machine difficulties and make necessary repairs or adjustments. + Perform general machine shop work. + Demonstrate an ability to fabricate precision parts and fixtures with limited direction. + Works towards effectively managing deadlines in completing breakdown, maintenance, and project activities. + Demonstrate an ability to make detailed sketches of work performed and produce CAD drawings upon completion + of an adequate amount of training. + Determine necessary tool and material requirements for specific assignments. + Associates in this position are required to be "on call" as defined in the "On Call Policy" and the Fair Labor + Standards Act and are required by management to respond to emergency or essential work situations based on + established departmental schedules. + Read and work from detailed blueprints to a tolerance of ±0.0001". + Participate in and support self-directed work team activities, including training and serving as shop coordinator on + a as-needed basis. + Under direction of shop coordinator, manages deadlines in completing breakdown, maintenance, and small + project activities. + Ability to fabricate precision parts and fixtures with little to no assistance. + Demonstrate an ability to make detailed sketches and complete CAD drawings as necessary. + Provide direction to other lower level machinists and mechanics. + Understand production machinery in order to effectively diagnose problems and design, fabricate, and install + corrective solutions. + With little to no direction, effectively manage deadlines in completing breakdown, maintenance, and project + activities. + 3.- Ability to fabricate precision parts and fixtures to specifications without direction. + Ability to consistently manage a variety of tasks, some being very involved and time consuming. + ETHICON CONFIDENTIAL use pursuant to Company Procedures Page 1 of 5 + Non-PPE Form + Quality System + Cornelia and Athens Position Description Form + Effectively manage multiple deadlines in completing breakdown, maintenance, and project activities. + Provide direction to other machinists - mechanics while performing own work. + Perform general and highly specialized bench and assembly work. + Work with Engineering to provide technical input on design and development of new equipment and processes. + Assist with documentation and training. + Administrative support including Ariba maintain material/parts needed for general shop work. + Operational support including coordinate/distribute work according to priority and workload, manage the status of + projects and provide feedback to facilitator regarding status of these projects; interface with outside machine + shops (contractors) to help with overflow or work outside our capabilities. **OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:** + Work in team environment behaving in a CREDO based respectful manner + Comply with all federally regulated programs. + Adhere to J&J environmental and safety policies and guidelines. + Comply with all job specific safety procedures and utilize PPE when necessary. + Comply with quality system requirements as defined within procedures and instructions. + Use test equipment (Starett Gauge, Mitutoyo Gauge, Microscope, etc) where applicable. + Utilize applicable software systems as needed for the job (e.g. ComplianceWire, ADAPTIV, etc.) + Consistently meet required work performance targets (RE's), if applicable + Support LEAN and Six Sigma Initiatives. + Support Maintenance Excellence (ME2) including 6S and Operator Asset Care. + Accurately complete records as defined within the job procedures (e.g. manual and/or electronic documentation). + Perform other work-related duties as assigned by supervisor. + Consistently meet required Training due date targets. + Support manufacturing in the day-to-day troubleshooting situations and actively participates on Integrated + Production Team's (IPT). + Interface with appropriate manufacturing representatives to ensure manufacturing operations and projects + receive effective technical support in alignment with EPS + Determine necessary tools and material requirements for specific assignments. **Qualifications** + High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent skills, experience, training or machinist technical school, equivalent formal training, or military training/experience in machinist trade. + Computer skills. + Excellent communication and interpersonal relation skills. + Statistical and analytical problem solving. + Prefer knowledge of lean manufacturing and manufacturing processes such as Just in Time (JIT), KANBAN, Pull Systems. + Welding and Fabrication experience and or certifications. + Knowledge of shop mathematics, for division, triangles, spacing of holes, gearing speeds, threads, etc. + Minimum 18-24 months of industrial machine shop, welding, or fabrication experience preferred.
