Job Description
This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the University Mail Center. This position will develop daily work schedules, hire, train and supervise both full time classified, hourly and student workers. Will adhere to the University, Commonwealth and USPS policies and procedures to ensure efficient movement of mail to three campuses. this position will also work directly with all carriers to include: FedEx, Amazon, UPS , USPS , DHL etc. to ensure package delivery for all students living in campus housing. Serve as the key administrator for Qtrak software system that manage student packages.

Working knowledge of U.S. Postal Service regulations and rates. Strong interpersonal communication skills. Effective customer service and problem resolution skills. Demonstrated ability to plan and direct the work of subordinate support staff. Ability to function efficiently in area of responsibility with little or no supervision. Demonstrated ability to operate an automated mail processor to apply postage to the University’s mail in accordance with U.S. Postal regulations and ensure the proper budgets are charged. Demonstrated ability to maintain the University’s mail management system. Demonstrated ability to operate a motor vehicle on and off campus for mail deliveries. Demonstrated ability to operate an automated mail processing machine. Demonstrated ability to lift, pull and load 40 – 70 lbs. several times a day. Demonstrated ability to manage departmental budget.

Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.

Level and type of experience
Several years experience in mail room operations on a med/large college campus. Some administrative and budget management experience. Some supervisory experience.
Additional Considerations (supplemental knowledge, skills, abilities, education, experience, licensure, certification)
Considerable experience in a Post Office or institutional Mail Center.
Some mail/postal operations training and some customer service training.
Conditions of Employment
40-hour work week Monday-Friday. Work hours are fixed 8 AM – 5 PM, and work is on ODU campus in Norfolk, VA. This position may be asked to work limited hours during university closings.
Annual Salary/Hourly Rate Salary commensurate with education and experience
