We build effective partnerships with co-workers throughout the College by freely sharing appropriate information and providing assistance to all and maintain an environment that is welcoming to persons of all backgrounds, nationalities, and roles. * Job Description:* *Collective Bargaining Agreement: *This is a grade 11, non-exempt, full-time (40 hours), benefited AFSCME position. *Salary*: Bi-weekly salary is $1,694.11 (annual salary is $44,046.86). *Hours*: Work Schedule: 3:00 PM - 11:00PM, Monday- Friday, days off are Saturday and Sunday. *General Statement of Duties:* * The Maintainer II is responsible for landscaping tasks related to the upkeep, maintenance, beautification, and safety of university grounds, parking lots, and walkways. * The basic purpose of this work is to perform various manual tasks required for the routine maintenance of the buildings and grounds of an educational campus. *Supervision Received*: Assistant Director of Trades *Supervision Exercised:* None *Responsibilities:* * Performs routine manual tasks involved in the maintenance, repair or beautification of campus grounds or roads including but not limited to cutting grass, weeds or brush; cleaning culverts, gutters, catch-basins, drains; loading and unloading vehicles; moving and setting up furniture; spreading sand, gravel, loam, or asphalt or concrete; digging ditches or post-holes; setting or pulling posts, repairing fences; patching concrete or asphalt surfaces; maintaining, erecting, or repairing signs; cleaning or marking roadways for parking lots; erecting or dismantling snow fences; painting fences, posts, or building exteriors; sweeps sidewalks, rakes and collects leaves, collects and hauls debris or rubbish and other duties assigned associated with commercial landscaping. * Plants, seeds, transplants, removes, prunes, trims, waters, sprays, or fertilizes trees, shrubbery, grass, plants, or flowers; participates in the propagation, growth, and care of flowers, plants, and shrubs; assists in planning and executing horticultural designs for grounds beautification associated with commercial landscaping. * Performs various manual tasks in connection with snow removal and ice control work including but not limited to shoveling snow using shovel and snow blower, spreading salt and sand, and scraping/breaking ice to provide safe roadways and sidewalks for motorists and pedestrians. * Performs various routine manual labor tasks requiring specialized skills to assist in the work of skilled trades and craft personnel such as carpenters, plumbers, painters, HVAC, locksmiths, etc. * Places and removes traffic control devices such as cones, barriers, and signage. * Cleans, washes, refuels, oils, or greases trucks or automobiles; performs other manual labor tasks in connection with the maintenance and operation of groundskeeping equipment and the garage, including but not limited to sharpening tools and installing and removing attachments such as mowers, plow blades, leaf catcher buckets, and vacuum cleaners to tractors and trucks. * Assists with ordering parts for vehicles and equipment. * Makes general repairs of a simple nature, including minor repairs to groundskeeping equipment used for landscaping. * Operates powered equipment including but not limited to wheel tractors, electric trimmers, mowers, and similar equipment for performing commercial landscaping; operates trucks. * Keeps vehicle and equipment maintenance logs and inventory records, as assigned. * Inspects equipment and tools for wear and tear; brings concerns to the supervisor's attention. * May be responsible for training new Maintainer employees from time to time, as assigned to assist with landscaping tasks. * Serves as designated essential personnel; responds to weather and other emergencies as assigned. * Performs all duties of landscaping safely and responsibly. * Demonstrates civility and professional, customer service-oriented behavior, worthy of emulation by other staff and students while performing commercial landscaping. * Responsible for contributing to Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action objectives. * Performs other duties as assigned within the Maintainer classification *Requirements:* Required Qualifications: * Ability to understand and apply the rules, regulations, policies, procedures, specifications, standards, and guidelines governing assigned work. * Ability to comprehend and communicate effectively orally or in writing e.g. work orders, directions to subordinates, questions from other employees. * Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships. * Ability to stand and walk for long periods. * Ability to work outside in all types of weather conditions, including but not limited to snow, rain, freezing rain, sleet, wind, heat, and cold while completing commercial landscaping tasks. * Ability to lift and carry heavy objects, up to 50 pounds without assistance. * Ability to climb and work on ladders and scaffolds. * Ability to operate powered and non-powered commercial landscaping equipment. * Physical stamina and endurance. * Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle; valid driver's license required. * Valid hoisting license issued by the Massachusetts Department of Public Safety or the ability to obtain within the first year of employment. * Ability to exercise sound judgment. * Ability to work well independently and in a team setting while performing commercial landscaping tasks. * Ability to work overtime. * Ability to perform essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. * Demonstrated and documented landscaping experience. *Preferred Qualifications:* Strong work ethic and a willingness to learn. * Additional Information:* Please note MassArt: * Does not support employment-based visa sponsorship or non-student exchange visitor visa sponsorship. * Is not an E-Verify institution.
