Participates in the performance of duties necessary to keep the physical structure and associated equipment of hospital in good repair. Will complete preventative maintenance and corrective maintenance work orders with little to no supervision. Performs intermediate level chemistry testing of boiler water and adjust chemical output to maintain internal integrity of boilers and steam lines. Ensures that steam delivered from boilers meets standards for sterilization equipment for Central Sterile Supply. Performs safety checks on boilers to ensure all safety switches are in proper working order. Learns and understands all aspects of boiler system and safe operating procedures. Performs intermediate level chemistry testing of chiller and cooling tower water and adjust chemical output to maintain integrity of chillers and cooling towers and ensure that water in cooling towers does not contain live bio-matter. Performs basic to intermediate troubleshooting on HVAC equipment, and repairs equipment as needed. Performs basic electrical troubleshooting and repair. Performs basic to intermediate plumbing installation and repair, including steam trap repair and replacement. Maintains performance improvement activities within the department and participates in CQI activities. Works as part of a team to maintain efficient and effective department operation and does so within compliance of all DNV-GL, state, federal and local regulatory laws, standards, codes, and protocols. Serves as a member of the Fire Response Team and responds to codes. Supports the mission of St. Peter’s Health through the performance of preventative maintenance, general and scheduled maintenance and repair and installation of buildings and equipment.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE: Knowledge and minimum of 3 years experience in maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment in a public facility required
EDUCATION: High school diploma, HiSet or GED preferred.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY: Second class boiler’s license preferred. Required to obtain second-class boilers license within three years of employment. Failure to obtain second-class boilers license within the allotted time will result in immediate termination.
