Maintenance Controls Engineer

Job Description:

Primary Purpose of Role:

The Maintenance Controls Engineer develops technical & design specifications, tests and oversees the implementation of new equipment to ensure the business unit’s requirement are met and meets the company’s standards.  The engineer will support operations’ maintenance personnel in the troubleshooting of functional problems and guide maintenance activities to eliminate functionality issues of equipment/systems throughout the entire company.  The engineer will design and guide installation activities to retrofit and improve functionality of existing equipment/systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Review and update control system specifications to ensure that new equipment meets business requirements (utilizes standard components, maintainable, cost effective, flexible, easy to use, supports integration with controls and business systems infrastructure).

Review machine quotes, prints, approval drawings, and control logic to insure adherence to specifications and process requirements

Participate in equipment run-offs to insure proper control system function.

Develop, procure, implement and support a control systems infrastructure that will be used to communicate between factory floor equipment and business systems.

Provide production support for fabrication and assembly equipment.

Support the training of skilled trades resources responsible for supporting controls systems.

Support the training of end users of control systems.

Support continuous improvement activities.

Investigate control systems trends and suggest modifications that provide business benefit.

Provides a physical presence in the workplace.

Willingness to work weekends and holidays as required.

Willingness to be on call.

Competencies and Behaviors:

Basic CNC programming knowledge.

Basic understanding of mechanical and hydraulic systems.

Ability to engage in structured problem-solving.

Knowledge of best practices in automotive or equipment manufacturing.

Familiar with lean manufacturing principles for machining and assembly operations.

Strong computer skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or closely related discipline.

Experience:

Required:

3+ years’ experience as Maintenance Engineer, Controls Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, or closely related position.

Experience with the development, implementation and support of industrial control systems that perform control, monitoring, data acquisition, logging, and alarming functions.

Experience with Allen-Bradley PAC/PLC control systems.

Preferred:

Experience in Functional Transmission Test Stand Control Systems - Bauer Controls.

Experience with Leak Testing methodologies and systems.

Experience with Fanuc and Siemens CNC Control Systems and PC control.

Experience with device communication networks including Allen-Bradley DH+, DeviceNet, Ethernet IP, etc.
