Job Description
This role involves improving alignment, bearing setup, and mechanical drive train precision with existing skilled maintenance technicians. The Maintenance Engineer will play a leadership role in executing proactive preventative maintenance and reliability strategies within a continuous operating corn mill. The primary focus will be on root cause analysis with mechanical/rotating equipment and implementing solutions. The position will also involve managing small reliability projects and ensuring the reliability of large fan and mechanical vapor compressor/fan performance.
ResponsibilitiesPerform duties in a safe manner, utilizing all safety equipment, and successfully complete all safety certification requirements.Work with the Facilities Manager to develop, coordinate, and conduct technical reliability studies and evaluations to maintain equipment reliability.Investigate and analyze relevant variables potentially affecting processes and assets.Provide plant engineering with technical support on reliability issues.Participate in engineering activities that improve the reliability of equipment.Lead Root Cause Failure Analysis and Reliability Maintenance and preventive and predictive maintenance programs.Train employees on the value of maintenance reliability and actions required to increase operational efficiency.Support and comply with all food safety, quality, and legality requirements.Manage external contractors/vendors and find/connect with these resources independently.May perform reasonably similar or related duties as assigned.Essential SkillsMinimum of 10+ years of industrial maintenance and reliability engineering experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.Experience in a food grade processing facility is a plus.Experience in Vibration, Infrared, Alignment, Ultrasonic, Motor Circuit, and Lubrication analysis.in rotating equipment, seals, piping, pumps, fans, blowers, and material handling equipment.Project management skills.Mechanical engineering experience.Maintenance management experience.Process engineering experience.Familiarity with API 653 and API 510 certifications.Alignment experience and ability to use a laser aligner.Basic understanding of lubrication.Knowledge of Maintenance Management Systems.Familiarity with GMP, FDA, and OSHA regulations.Ability to spend time in plant areas, including walking long distances, standing, climbing stairs and ladders, and moving through close spaces.Additional Skills & QualificationsA degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Industrial, or equivalent work experience.Outstanding interpersonal skills and effective communication with all levels of employees.Ability to plan and prioritize effectively.Willingness to work off-hours including evenings and weekends as required.Dedication and ambition to excel in the role.Work Environment
The work takes place in a syrup manufacturing facility with vessels ranging from 5 gallons to 100,000 gallons. Most of the facility is indoors, providing a comfortable environment during winter but can be very hot during the rest of the year. The majority of repairs are atmospheric. The role involves managing precision maintenance and keeping maintenance activities on track. Administrative tasks are minimized to keep the individual from being desk-bound, with support available for managing paperwork and work orders. The team is positive and supportive, though specific team members may vary. The goal is to ensure that the individual can make a significant impact and potentially transition to a permanent position based on performance.
