Maintenance Engineer
Overview The Maintenance Engineer operates and maintains the heating, cooling and life safety equipment and fixtures within the facility using acceptable work practices and following hospital and departmental guidelines to maintain a safe, comfortable environment for patients, staff and visitors. Responsibilities Job Description Responsible for repairing and maintaining equipment and systems within assigned locations in a safe, efficient manner. Repairs and maintains various pieces of mechanical and electrical equipment following accepted practices and procedures. These systems include plumbing, controls, HVAC refrigeration and electrical/emergency power. Operate and maintain steam and hot water heating boilers, including adequate chemical control, seasonal maintenance and safety. Repairs and maintains patient care equipment to provide a safe environment for patients and comply with the standards of the various regulatory agencies Repairs, maintains, adjusts and calibrates miscellaneous portable equipment brought to the shop for repair, including but not limited to wheelchairs, carts, equipment, furniture etc. Demonstrates the ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics and technical manuals to trouble-shoot and isolate problems Demonstrates safe and efficient practice in the use of hand and power tools. Gains a thorough working knowledge of the major systems within the assigned locations, and is able to operate them safely and efficiently and troubleshoot problems so they can be resolved with a minimum of down time and distribution of service Performs periodic preventive maintenance on fans, motors, belts, HVAC systems, steam, water, sewer, air and vacuum, fire suppression, oxygen, and other medical gases. Completes and turns in required documentation i.e. service requests, work logs, check lists and other documentation. Performs all duties in a safe, efficient manner. Demonstrates ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served. Operate and respond to fire alarm systems. ยท Conduct or supervise fire drills for occupants, advising them of fire-safe design elements (e.g. fire doors, separations, sprinklers), practice improvements and patient safety strategies. Investigate unscheduled fire alarms, determining cause and making recommendations. Complete reports and forward to facilities office Rotate call for facility emergencies. Triage calls to determine necessity for immediate action. Respond to site and resolve. Respond to emergency, security and disaster situations in compliance with policies and procedures (Tornado, Behavioral Codes, Medical Assistance, etc.) Understand and follow safety procedures specifically related to job duties (Blood-borne pathogens, OSHA, Eye protection, etc.) Qualifications Required Education Experience 5 years experience in operation and maintenance in commercial, industrial or institutional environment. Computer competence License/Certification/Registration Woodwinds: State of Minnesota Special Engineer License (SP) Preferred Education Graduate of an accredited trade school in refrigeration, electricity, building maintenance or other appropriate course Experience License/Certification/Registration Woodwinds: State of Minnesota 2nd Class C Engineer License (2C) or higher EEO Statement EEO/AA Employer/Vet/Disabled: All qualified applicants will receive consideration without regard to any lawfully protected status
