Maintenance engineer (automation)

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Maintenance Engineer to join our team at Syngenta Porriño. The successful candidate will be responsible 50% for ensuring the optimal performance, reliability, and safety of our manufacturing equipment and facilities and 50% for program, maintain, and troubleshoot PLCs and other control systems.

Main Accountabilities will be:

Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs for production equipment and facilities.Troubleshoot and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, and control system issues.Program, maintain, and troubleshoot PLCs and other control systems.Conduct regular inspections and performance evaluations of machinery and systems.Plan and oversee equipment installations, modifications, and upgrades.Manage maintenance schedules to minimize production downtime.Collaborate with production teams to improve equipment efficiency and reliability.Ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental standards, and quality requirements.Manage spare parts inventory and coordinate with suppliers.Train and mentor maintenance technicians.Prepare technical reports and maintain accurate maintenance records.Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and cost reduction projects.Stay updated on industry best practices and emerging maintenance technologies.Carries out contractor supervision from the point of view of HSE and quality of work in the factory, considering the Safety and Environment procedures.Issues Permits to work and check that works stick to the HSE rules and standards.Maintains safe and clean working environment by enforcing procedures, rules, and regulations.All these tasks always carried out in accordance with the engineering standards, procedures, HSE and legal requirements.

Qualifications

Must have:

Must have:Bachelor's degree in Automation Engineering.2+ years of experience in industrial maintenance, preferably in the chemical or pharmaceutical industry.Proficient in PLC programming (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or similar platforms) – Essential.Experience with SCADA systems and HMI programmingStrong knowledge of manufacturing processes, automation systems, and maintenance best practices.Proficiency in CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) and relevant software tools.Familiarity with predictive maintenance techniques and reliability-centered maintenance principles.Fluency in Spanish and at least B1 equivalent level in English (both written and spoken).Willingness to work flexible hours and respond to emergency calls when necessary.Desirable experience:Proficiency in CAD software and project management toolsExperience with GMP, OSHA, and other relevant industry standardsLean Manufacturing
