Maintenance Manager

Located in Birdsboro, Pennsylvania, the Birdsboro Power Combined Cycle Facility is a leader in advanced energy production. Opportunity Summary

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for handling maintenance and repairs on plant facilities and equipment. Ensures that power plant mechanical, electrical, and control and instrument equipment is maintained in a safe, reliable, and efficient operating condition. The Maintenance Manager plans and oversees the repair, maintenance, and improvement of plant mechanical, electrical, and control and instrument equipment. This position evaluates plant maintenance requirements and coordinates related work with other plant departments.

Primary Duties

Your scope of responsibility as Maintenance Manager will include the following primary functions: 

Oversee the activities of maintenance personnel to ensure maintenance and repair activities are performed safely and efficiently, in alignment with company policies, procedures, the station maintenance manual, and technical specifications. Implement the plant's preventive and predictive maintenance program, maintain equipment failure records, and provide trend information to the Plant Manager. Coordinate all maintenance activities, including outage scheduling and execution, in collaboration with the facility’s CSA contractor. Schedule maintenance project activities, monitor performance, and provide technical expertise and direction to ensure work is performed safely, timely, and productively. Develop and administer contracts and work scopes for external contractors to maximize efficiency in the use of plant and contractor personnel. Determine project maintenance requirements by following preventive and predictive maintenance programs, and review, evaluate, and prioritize maintenance work requests to establish job steps, estimate man-hours, and specify parts and equipment needs. Provide maintenance training for operating shift technicians, presenting instruction on job-related skills and proper equipment repair procedures. Ensure safety is integrated into each assigned job, and that work is performed efficiently and safely. Coordinate maintenance work interfaces with other project departments to accomplish repairs in a timely and safe manner. Prepare and maintain various reports and records required to verify the completion of project maintenance work and provide historical information for future maintenance planning. Investigate and study new ideas, methods, and technologies related to power plant maintenance. Recommend and implement improvements to maximize maintenance work efficiency and reduce future maintenance requirements, ensuring these new methods are adopted through updated maintenance procedures and training. Provide guidance and assistance to employees in the preparation of maintenance work requests. Review work orders for completeness and accuracy, ensuring proper entry and closure in the CMMS system. Assist in determining project maintenance requirements by helping implement preventive maintenance programs, evaluating maintenance work requests, and coordinating manpower needs, work prioritization, parts procurement, and scheduled equipment outages. Participate in maintaining project operating and maintenance manuals, technical references, prints and diagrams, and preventive/predictive maintenance records. Assist with the location, screening, and hiring of maintenance personnel. Other reasonable tasks as assigned by the Plant Manager.

Conduct/Support Regular Safety Meetings (at least monthly). Address Safety at all Group Meetings. Conduct Inspections and Observations: establish within the department a regular inspection of the work area and a safety observation process of work being performed. Establish and lead these activities following any rules, requirements or guidance established in your business unit, group, or division. Involve all NAES teammates in the activities. Analyze result, write work orders, train, and educate to eliminate hazards, at-risk behavior and meet company regulatory requirements. Conduct Regular Observation Tours: Conduct no less than two safety observation tours of high-risk activities e.g., confined space to verify that employees are performing the work in accordance with safe practices, company procedures and OSHA regulations. Regular and Frequent Contacts: conduct one-on-one contact sessions with workers to discuss safety issues, communicate expectations and coach safe behaviors, e.g., whether the employee is wearing all required personal protective equipment. Respond to Incidents: respond to all safety-related incidents including, but not limited to injuries, incidents and near misses; write a report that explains what happened, identify the cause, and recommend corrective action following any established business unit or division practice. Follow up as necessary to ensure that corrective action is taken.

Working Relationships 

The Maintenance Manager reports to the Plant Manager and supervises subordinate maintenance personnel. The Maintenance Manager cooperates with the Compliance Coordinator, Administrative Manager, Operations Manager and Plant Engineer as needed in the daily operation of the plant.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Physical requirements include the possibility of standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing and lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.

Fitness for Duty

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. 

Work Schedule

This position offers a Monday to Friday work schedule, during regular dayshift hours. Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, work load and plant conditions. "On call" status will periodically be required. Some travel may be involved to participate in Manager, Owner, User Group, or other offsite meetings.

Compensation

Initial starting compensation will range from $150,000 to $175,000 and will include an annual bonus.

Job Qualifications

We are seeking a candidate who has extensive power plant combined cycle maintenance technical and leadership experience with a work history that demonstrates a pattern of accomplishments and advancement.

Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (ex. engineering, business, etc.)  or equivalent is preferred, however equivalent work experience may be substituted. Experience in Power Plant operations is highly desired. Strong background in electrical and microprocessor-based controls, along with expertise in rotating equipment, and proficiency in using computer-based preventive and predictive maintenance tools are also highly desired. Proven experience in managing maintenance programs, encompassing preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance, preferably in a power plant or similar industrial setting. Exceptional technical knowledge of power plant equipment and systems, with the ability to diagnose equipment failures and implement best practices for plant performance improvement. Demonstrated experience in supervising hourly personnel, showcasing strong leadership and team management skills, including the ability to oversee and coordinate maintenance staff effectively, ensuring a safe and productive work environment. In-depth understanding of safety regulations and practices, with a consistent track record of promoting and maintaining a strong safety culture within a team or organization. Proficiency in developing and implementing maintenance programs, including utilizing Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and reliability-centered maintenance approaches. Oversight of the System Expert program, directing employees as they assume collateral duties on assigned plant systems, such as ordering spare parts, maintaining up-to-date drawings, identifying milestones and due dates, and documenting ongoing work in progress. Excellent communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams and effectively communicating with superiors, subordinates, and external stakeholders. Demonstrated expertise in project management, with a consistent track record of completing assignments on time, adeptly managing major outages, and skillfully planning and prioritizing work orders. Strong problem-solving abilities to identify and address maintenance challenges and implement improvements. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license at all times.
