Summary

GAF is looking for a Maintenance Manager to support the construction, commissioning and operations of a greenfield asphalt shingle manufacturing plant in Newton KS. The candidate will participate in design reviews, construction and commissioning efforts. During plant construction and commissioning, the Maintenance Manager will coordinate with internal and external resources to ensure schedule and financial compliance.

After commissioning, the Maintenance Manager will be responsible for providing direction, coordination and support for the daily execution of the maintenance department’s operating plan with the primary objective of maintaining the Plant’s equipment and facilities. The Maintenance Manager will ensure that all safe work practices are implemented and followed by the department. This role will instill GAF’s safety culture into the daily work environment by ensuring policies and procedures are followed. Other areas of responsibility are to provide technical and managerial leadership to the functions of equipment reliability, maintenance planning and scheduling, facility maintenance, training, computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), and root cause failure analysis.

Essential Duties

Assist Corporate design team with plant design. Ensure compliance with construction and commissioning schedules.

Participate in design activities (detailed manufacturing and support systems designs, engineering reviews, factory acceptance testing, etc.)

Responsible for hiring and developing the plant maintenance team.

Establishes and administers preventive and predictive maintenance programs to include root cause analysis for electrical, mechanical and instrumentation issues.

Recommend modifications for continuous improvement in an effort to minimize cost, optimize maintenance and production capabilities and enhance safety. Ensures compliance with all industry and company standard safety practices.

Interface with other individuals and departments in developing plans to ensure proper utilization of facility assets.

Responsible for Maintenance department budget generation, spending and compliance.

Participate with concept validation at external locations.

Monitor the condition of plant infrastructure and manage repairs to maintain the health of plant infrastructure.

Perform all other duties assigned.
 

Under This Roof, We Require

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical or Industrial) coupled with knowledge/experience planning and executing projects in a manufacturing process - experience will be considered in lieu of an Engineering degree

5+ years (minimum) of relevant maintenance experience along with supervisory and budgeting experience

Ability to translate technical data into a format/ language suitable for personnel

Experience with process hazard analysis

Ability to read and interpret specifications and drawings

Proficiency in mechanical, electrical or pneumatic systems

Willingness to respond to after hour emergencies including weekends and holidays

Ability to communicate, both written, and orally, in English is required

Ability to meet extensive travel requirements in first 1-2 years for the opportunity to visit and train at existing GAF locations

Experience in Google Suite and SAP is beneficial

Experience with maintenance planning systems (Maximo, etc.)

Strong working knowledge of maintenance processes to include predictive maintenance, preventive maintenance, TPM, etc.

Strong working knowledge of project management processes and systems

Knowledge of engineering fundamentals to include root cause analysis, statistical process control, lean/agile approaches and structured problem solving (Kepner Tregoe, Potential Problem Analysis, Design of Experiments, etc.)

Ability to interpret the content and terms of vendor proposals

Ability to manage outside contractors to safely and efficiently implement projects

Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite
