Maintenance Manager



 

GFL Environmental is looking for a Maintenance Manager for our Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) in Winnipeg, MB!

This is an afternoon shift. 1:30pm to 11pm Monday to Friday. Weekly OT and weekend OT as needed.

Accountable for the daily management of employees who are actively engaged in the maintenance, repair and servicing of heavy-duty equipment, support equipment, and mechanical infrastructure owned and operated by GFL Environmental.

Duties include shop planning and scheduling to ensure availability of equipment to meet operational requirements. The Maintenance manager is responsible for asset maintenance and performance, this includes tasks such as overseeing the preventative maintenance program, annual inspections in accordance with OEM requirements, and cost control measures associated with maintenance program and budget targets.

This individual will be responsible for managing and developing the personnel within their department, which includes technicians

Requirements:

Technical/Functional Skills 4+ years of experience related to the heavy equipment industry, licensed journeyman ticket in heavy equipment or millwright is preferred but not required.Minimum 3+ years supervisory and people management with significant hands-on experience in leading maintenance teams.Demonstrated ability to create a culture of accountability and cross departmental teamwork.Excellent communication skills, management of priorities and good organizational skills.Ability to deal with all levels of management.Tactfully dispenses direct and actionable feedback; is open and direct with others.Ability to perform under pressure and in a fast-paced and rewarding environment.Experience in the Waste and Recycling Industry is an asset but not a requirement.

Key Responsibilities:

Work with the operational team to ensure equipment needs are met.Responsible for ensuring equipment meets the GFL maintenance standards, following policies and local regulations.Identify and develop plans to improve department procedures to maximize asset availability.Ensure employees comply with health and safety programs.Analyze the equipment, performance and make suggestions for improvements or purchases.Review of repairs performed by third parties or subcontractors on the company’s equipment.Monitor equipment utilization, ensuring adequate spare ratios, technician ratios and uptime is achieved.Work with Operations in the development of the budget for maintenance and replacement of equipment.Complete weekly reports for management including budgeting monthly spend and meeting due dates of reporting.Establish various equipment management best practices to improve cost control.Oversee personal changes including hiring, training, and development of department employees.Ensuring staff levels are met to achieve GFL maintenance requirements.Perform other related duties as required.

Working Conditions

The Maintenance Manager must be able to work inside and/or outside in all different weather conditions including extreme cold and extreme heat. Work locations could vary from office to boardroom to shop floor.

Moderate walking, standing, climbing, heavy lifting, carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, grasping/gripping, and pushing/pulling.Work utilizing personal protective equipment, including hearing protection, safety-toed boot, utility gloves, reflective vest, hearing and eye protection, hard hat, etc.Work outside and inside, around moving objects, vehicles, and machinery with moving parts.Physically able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds, and push/pull up to 100 pounds.
