The Maintenance Manager plans, organizes, and directs the plant maintenance functions including engineering, planning, mechanical/electrical leads, technicians, and stores inventory with the purpose of increasing overall equipment availability.  The Maintenance Manager develops and implements the strategic vision and direction to improve equipment performance and availability.  

 

As the leader of the Maintenance Department, the Maintenance Manager reports to the Plant Manager.  The Maintenance Manager balances priorities, manpower, material, budget, and equipment availability to improve department and individual efficiency and performance. The Maintenance Manager has leadership, mentoring, and supervisory responsibility for all Maintenance Department staff (5 direct and 35 indirect reports). 

 

What You’ll Do:

Manages, organizes, and directs plant maintenance functions by: 

Leading the annual development of the maintenance budget and efficiently managing ongoing spending; Leading the continual improvement and integration of the Company’s computer maintenance management system (MP2) into the maintenance and production work system; Providing leadership to the plant maintenance engineer, planner, and storeroom personnel; Developing and implementing plans to reduce breakdowns, improve planned maintenance, optimize scheduled maintenance, and effectively execute down-day events; Developing metrics and reporting systems necessary to track progress and identify key improvement areas across all manufacturing systems; Maintaining the facility in a safe manner and to a standard level of equipment availability; Reviewing and observing the work of the maintenance employees and directing development/training requirements; Maintaining close contact with the Production Manager to ensure maintenance activities occur with minimal disruption to production operations; Identifying the root cause of all electrical and mechanical down-time incidents; Communicating individual, department, plant, and corporate performance to all levels of the maintenance organization; Recommending and implementing improvements in maintenance and operational procedures; and Touring the plant and all facilities to interact with production, quality, safety, and maintenance to help drive cultural change and to ensure appropriate work is being performed and that customers’ needs are being meet.

 

Leads the development, implementation, and sustainability of a predictive and preventative maintenance system by: 

 

Developing detailed job plans including the labor (type and quantity), materials, tools, and work procedures for repairs, alterations, and preventative maintenance to facilities and equipment to meet the objectives of the work request; Setting-up and maintaining any preventive maintenance work orders established in MP2, including job plans, frequency of work, crafts, man-hours, and parts/tools required; Managing and maintaining the work flow process (work identification, planning, scheduling, execution, and auditing); Entering all employee information, schedules, and exceptions in MP2; Maintaining work order backlog of work for specific areas of the plant, including: Reviewing all new work requests entered in MP2 for applicability, correctness, and clarity; Cleaning up, evaluating, and managing the backlog; and Capturing and recording necessary equipment and material history. Reviewing reports and taking appropriate action with regard to daily, weekly, and monthly Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to ensure that the department meets its respective expectations; Reviewing previous day’s work packages to check for follow-up work and to ensure work orders are correctly closed; Leading the planning and scheduling of wash-up days; Leading the Down Day-7, Down Day-3, and “What Went Right/What Went Wrong” meetings; Preparing a Gantt chart for all wash-up day activities, to include production, clean up crew, electrical, and mechanical personnel; Participating in the wash-up day half-time meetings; Conducting time studies to improve efficiency of production, maintenance, and clean-up crews as related to wash-up day performance; Incorporating plant delay items into weekly wash-ups; Completing scorecard for each wash-up day; Providing accurate man-hours for each wash-up day, by craft, to facilitate decision-making; Generating purchase requests for non-stocked parts and tools to support the plan; Developing storeroom organization surrounding parts kits, including shelving, locations, storage kits, and markings; Working with storeroom personnel to ensure availability of cost-effective and necessary parts; Working with storeroom personnel to ensure efficient inventory level maintenance; and Ensuring all work orders have parts kitted.

 

Manages career development and training for the Maintenance Department by:  

Ensuring technicians remain proficient with advancing technologies; Ensuring that all technicians maintain required license and certifications; Evaluating skill sets of technicians as compared to operational and maintenance needs of the plant; Developing and completing action plans to eliminate any skill gaps; and Implementing and leading any corporate-defined technician training initiatives.

What you'll bring:

Bachelor’s Degree preferred (Engineering preferred). 5 or more years of maintenance manager experience in a continuous operating (24/7) manufacturing environment. Experience with a computer maintenance management system (CMMS), such as MP2 or similar system. 3 years of Planning/Scheduling hands-on experience (preferred). Working knowledge of PLC programming and troubleshooting (preferred). Demonstrated advanced skills with the standard features of various personal computer word processing and spreadsheet software (Microsoft Word and Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Internet, and other proprietary software). Strong electrical and mechanical technical knowledge. Strong interpersonal and written/oral communication skills with the ability to relate well and cooperate with others to effectively coordinate activities and accomplish goals. Demonstrated ability to pay attention to detail and continual diligence about follow-up. Strong desire to learn. Well organized with the ability to multi-task. Strong leadership skills with the ability to be a part of cross-functional teams.  Knowledgeable of root cause and fault tree analysis techniques. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Sound judgment, problem solving and critical thinking skills. Ability to manage the flow of all required information and documentation. Ability to deliver sustainable and superior results.
