Responsibilities This is a term position (more than 1 year) with an initial appointment expecting to last at least 13 months but may be extended up to a total of nine years, or more based on any changes to regulations governing the number of years term appointments may last, without further competition. Term positions do not convey permanent status in the Federal service. The National Park Service retains the right to extend the duration of this appointment after selection and/or appointment, based on changes to the regulation governing the number of years term appointments may last. MAJOR DUTIES: Ensure the safe operation and maintenance of equipment, tools, and work sites. Independently perform a variety of journeymen duties related to maintenance work. Repair and maintain historic buildings, government housing, and other buildings within accepted safety, health, and sanitary conditions. Construct, repair, and replace floors, shelving, rafters, stairways, doors, windows, and roofs. Construct, repair, and replace docks, bulkheads, log booms, and other lake infrastructure. Daily maintenance activities such as electrical, plumbing, appliance and other repairs. Plan and lay out projects, making modifications when necessary. Use initiative and sound judgment to accomplish work assignments. Purchase project supplies while taking into account local logistics and all federal purchasing regulations. Serve as informal project lead when working with lower graded employees. This position has a mixed work schedule based on the varying workload, and your work schedule is subject to change from part-time to full-time as workload dictates. The position is expected go to part time, 8-16 hours a week, for 1-2 pay periods, in December or March of each year. You will be required to complete a one-year trial period. You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 7 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
