U-Haul is seeking a full time Facility Maintenance Mechanic to maintain and perform general repairs on our U-Haul Technical Center.
Essential duties:
General Repairs and Maintenance: Replace glass, defective locks and defective electrical fixtures. Perform general plumbing repairs and minor service on air conditioning and heating units, replacing filters, fuses, and switches as necessary.Maintain and service HVAC units, replacing filters, fuses and switches as necessary. Maintain and service evaporative coolers.Responsible for all routine roof and building inspections.Grounds Maintenance: Maintain lawn, trees and flowers. Apply fertilizers and insecticides; ensure grounds are watered properly and according to schedule. Repair fences, sidewalks, walls and gates. Perform minor repair to roads and parking lots at facility. Ensure trash and any hazardous materials are disposed of with caution.Perform carpentry, painting, furniture and small equipment repair. Upon receipt of work orders, relocate doors, window openings, partitions, etc. Replace damaged floor and ceiling tiles. Repair damaged walls and relocate office furniture, file cabinets, etc.Monitor work performed by outside contractors and security company personnel as required. Advise Supervisor of any problems.Education/Training Requirements:
Experience—broad shop background in general maintenance and carpentry equivalent to complete accredited apprenticeship training.Skills—Must be able to perform with a variety of tools and other general maintenance equipment, including hand tools, power tools, garden tools etc., Must be able to operate a forklift.Experience:
5-6 years
Physical demands:
The work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities, and lifting a minimum of 50 lbs. assisted or unassisted.
Work Environment:
The work involves moderate risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts or machines, fumes or irritant chemicals. May be required to use protective clothing, or gear such as masks, goggles, gloves or shields
Additional Details:
Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a good driving record to operate motor vehicles with both types of transmission (automatic or standard). Adhere to all local vehicular regulations while driving.Must maintain good housekeeping practices in the work area and comply with all safety rules and procedures.Maintain just-in-time production methods, along with total quality control at the source of the work being performed.U-Haul Offers:
