Summary:Under general direction, the Maintenance Mechanic will perform a wide variety of general facility maintenance tasks in support of the efforts of the Facilities & Woodshop Operations to manage and maintain laboratory and administrative operations.
Responsible for mechanical service calls and in house repairs throughout facility, grounds, and woodshop. Performs work in one or more maintenance trades including carpentry, electrical, plumbing and painting. Performs routine equipment repair and installation of office fixtures. Makes periodic or special inspections of premises to determine repair work necessary. May work from rough sketches, blueprints and drawings.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Changes locks in drawers, cabinets and doors Replaces ballasts, light switches, and bulbs. Inspects sinks and toilets. Installs and replaces ceiling tiles. Sets up and maintains laboratory hoods and incubators. Moves equipment, freezers and furniture. Responds to emergency calls and equipment alarms. Performs regular facilities inspections to ensure proper operation of a variety of equipment and independently complete special projects as directed. May be responsible for boiler room operations after successful cross-training after hours. Orders supplies and materials as needed. Learns basic operations of SBP fire control panels and fire control systems. Perform daily checks on SBP Facilities and grounds. Manages and completes Fix tickets as assigned in the Fix Ticket system. Assists woodshop foreman with building and installing shelving, lab casework, and office furniture. Follows all established SBP safety procedures and programs. Assists mechanic side of Department. Education and/or Experience: High School diploma required and one to two years directly related experience in general maintenance or construction or trade/vocational certification and one to two years of directly related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained Trade/vocational school certification preferred. Previous experience in a scientific laboratory environment preferred. Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities: Must have valid CA driver's license. Must be able to lift and carry heavy objects up to 50 pounds, use hand and power tools, and work under time constraints. Work independently as well as in a team environment. Be responsible, organized, and a problem solver. Possess strong attention to detail, analytical, time management, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Compensation:
The expected Hiring Range for this role is between $24.70 - $26.21/hour commensurate with skills and experience.
