Responsibilities Operates a flood control facility to regulate streamflow, maintain reservoir elevations, and permit the release of water from reservoirs to meet emergency, water quality, and recreation demands. Maintains structures, buildings, roads and grounds, utilizing various trade practices, safety, and aesthetic value. Utilizes diverse programs including but not limited to asset management, real estate, environmental, construction management, and safety in support of project administration. Conducts regular/periodic inspections of dams, levees, channels, weirs, noting the project discrepancies, and need for maintenance or repair services. Operates diesel and gasoline powered vehicles. Maintains combustion-powered vehicles equipment including tractors with loaders, backhoes, mowers, sidehill mowers, engines, replacing, and/or repairing defective parts, and components. Uses various tools, test equipment, measuring devices to test /diagnose various electrical fixtures, wiring systems, related switches, and distribution panels. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Minimum Qualifications: Ability to do the work of a Maintenance Mechanic, WG-4749-10 position to include tasks such as 1) Performing maintenance and repair tasks on mechanical equipment, utility systems, buildings, and/or grounds; 2) Operating diesel and gasoline powered vehicles including tractors, skid steers, and mowers; and 3) Utilizing a variety of tools and equipment. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Makes repair on equipment or in installations often on high or hard to reach places, from ladders or platforms. Requires constant arm and leg movement and reaching, bending, and turning to operate hand and foot controls when operating tractor, motor vehicle, or crane. Exerts effort to maintain balance and position at controls of equipment. Stands, stoops, bends, kneels, climbs, and works in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Works on scaffolds, ladders, and while suspended from overhead crane, which require work overhead or in stretched, cramped, or awkward positions. Exerts heavy physical effort frequently lifting and moving objects weighing over 50 pounds, pushing heavy loads, and operating heavy hand-held equipment. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside in all kinds of weather. Is exposed to danger of falling into open tanks and manholes, contact with running motors, pumps, and machinery, cuts, bruises, and broken bones may result from accidents. Works behind bulkheads below water level. Characteristically works on or adjacent to water. Occasionally works at heights over 30 feet. All safety rules and regulations will be followed in accordance to regulations. Duty Station is located in rural North Central Pennsylvania, within the habitat of the Eastern Timber Rattlesnake. Encounters with this poisonous reptile are likely when lifting manhole covers, entering remote areas to check water and sewage lines and working in confined spaces. Education There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
