Summary The VA Northern California Health Care System (NCHCS) is currently recruiting for a full time Maintenance Work Leader position located in the In-House Construction Section of Engineering Service at NCHCS. The incumbent serves as the Work Leader for the Plumbing-Electrical-Carpenter-HVAC & Paint Shop exercising task oversight and control over work operations involving eight to twelve workers. Plans, directs, lays out, assigns, coordinates the work performed by assigned staff. Oversees the plumbers, carpenters, painters, and maintenance mechanics within the health care system including; equipment and accessory installation, all carpentry-related functions including framing, rough in, finishing work, masonry, plastering, concrete work, sheet rock, taping, duct work, metal work, painting', locks, and lock installation. Oversees plumbing-Electrical-HVAC related functions including sewers, waste lines, water lines, chilled water lines, sprinkler systems, gas and hot water pipes, air, vacuum, and oxygen systems, hydrants, water mains, water closets, lavatories, sinks, dishwashing machines, gas heaters, air compression equipment and sterilizers. Assess conditions and make recommendations for present and future corrective measures that may be necessary to provide continuous service. Ensures continuous and effective operation of the work order system, evaluates time and materials, keeps records of material and services used and ordered, and assesses charges to transferrable accounts. Establish and maintain records on repairs and materials attributable to building service equipment and personal property equipment under his/her control. Performs other duties as required or assigned. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00am-3:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Maintenance Mechanic/PD11674-0 Physical Requirements: Work is both outside and inside in areas of medium to excessive heat, cold, humidity, dampness or chilling areas that have intermittent noise, dust, fumes, grease, dirt, oils, with exposure to electrical wires and energy. Areas may be slippery and/or uneven surfaces, in equipment rooms, tunnels, crawls spaces, confined spaces, penthouses, overhead catwalks, and scaffolding and/or in tight areas such as manholes and electrical equipment closets. The incumbent is occasionally subject to very uncomfortable and possibly dangerous working conditions and must be in satisfactory physical and mental condition and fit for duty at all times. Work requires good coordination and good physical condition. Required to walk, stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, crawl and work in uncomfortable positions and to pull, push, reach over the shoulder and lift supplies and/or equipment weighing up to 100 pounds. Must have rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, good hearing, depth perception and the ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated.
