About the role

Reporting to the Lead or Manager, the Maintenance Mechanic will be responsible for performing various mechanical, maintenance and repair work including the inspection and maintenance work required for rotating machinery and equipment used for accepting and processing waste and recyclables at the Transfer Station.  The Technician will be required to inspect, adjust, repair or modify the mechanics of various rolling stock and facility machinery, including but not limited to wheel loaders, dozers, yard tractors, trucks, cranes, chassis, walking floor trailers, intermodal containers, and compactors.

Responsibilities will include:The inspection and maintenance work required for rotating machinery and equipment.Inspect and adjust, as necessary, the mechanical alignment, balance, level and general condition of rotating equipment throughout the Transfer StationPerform welding in SMAW, GTAW, and GMAWPerform preventative maintenance tasksActively participate in the periodic teardown and internal inspection of major equipmentUse various shop equipment in the performance of his/her assigned tasksRead and interpret measuring tools, blueprints, P&IDs, graphs and technical manualsFollow all health and safety rules and regulations mandated by law and per the policies and proceduresKeep work area clean, safe and orderly

Position Requirements: Must have at least three (3) years’ experience with heavy equipment and truck maintenance and repair, crane experience strongly preferred.High School/GED Diploma required unless candidate has 5 years’ verifiable experience in maintenance. Formal technical or apprenticeship training is desired.   May be required to work extensive overtime hours during planned and un-planned maintenance.Welding experience

Shift:

Monday to Friday 2:00pm to 11:00pm

Physical Demands:On a frequent basis, the Maintenance technicians must use a variety of hand tools throughout the day to perform dutiesOn a frequent basis, the Maintenance technicians the employee may be required to lift equipment/partsOn an occasional basis, Maintenance technicians is required to lift a tire/rim or part that may be in excess of 50 lbs.Must be able to work outdoors at timesMust be comfortable working in noisy conditionsWork with manlifts and scissors baskets at heights over 80 feet and 120 feet max
