Maintenance Planner

Situated on the west bank of the Hudson River in West Haverstraw, NY, the Bowline Point Generation Station comprises two dual-fuel natural gas and oil-fired boilers, along with two GE steam turbine units, providing a combined capacity of 1169 megawatts. The plant has been a significant source of electricity for the region and has undergone upgrades to meet environmental regulations, ensuring its continued role in maintaining grid stability.

Opportunity Summary

The Maintenance Planner plays a pivotal role in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of key plant equipment by strategically planning and executing maintenance schedules while managing parts procurement and weekly maintenance activities. This role oversees the CMMS system, supervises onsite contractors, and ensures all maintenance is performed in accordance with safety and operational standards. Additionally, the position includes backup supervisory responsibilities, obtaining quotes and requisitions, and achieving Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) certification.

Primary Functions

Planning & Scheduling

Develop and implement maintenance schedules for critical equipment such as turbines, generators, and condensers, following manufacturer recommendations and operational priorities. Plan and schedule major outages, prioritizing maintenance tasks. Use Microsoft Project to create detailed project plans, allocate resources, and track progress, providing regular updates to stakeholders. Manage the work week schedule to ensure effective coordination of resources and personnel for maintenance tasks. Coordinate regular planning meetings with Plant Management and stakeholders to align on work plans, ensuring effective coordination with contractors, suppliers, and other third parties. Produce detailed work plans and contribute to developing work scope documents for Requests for Information (RFIs) and Requests for Proposals (RFPs). Act as backup Supervisor when needed, overseeing plant operations and maintenance activities to ensure continuity and safety.

Maintenance Execution & Oversight

Manage the plant's CMMS (Maximo) to optimize maintenance workflows, ensure accurate data entry, and use reporting tools for trend analysis and reliability improvement. Establish contingency priorities for forced outages and assist in creating emergency response plans to facilitate rapid resource deployment and minimize downtime during crises. Oversee preventive maintenance programs to enhance equipment longevity and reduce unplanned failures. Perform equipment inspections related to duty cycles and contribute to long-term maintenance strategy development. Collaborate with the Operations Team to establish safe work conditions and proper isolation for planned maintenance. Supervise onsite contractors to ensure adherence to safety, quality, and schedule requirements during maintenance activities.

Parts Purchasing & Procurement

Obtain quotes and create purchase requisitions for necessary parts and materials, ensuring timely delivery and cost efficiency. Work closely with suppliers to procure critical spare parts and consumables for routine and emergency maintenance. Maintain an inventory of critical spare parts and liaise with suppliers to ensure availability of parts and technical support.

Technical Improvements & Reliability

Lead reliability improvement initiatives by addressing recurring equipment issues and implementing reliability-centered maintenance strategies. Conduct control loop tuning to improve control system responsiveness and process stability. Support Root Cause Analysis (RCA) efforts and oversee the maintenance of high-voltage systems to ensure reliable power distribution.

Budget & Inventory Management

Develop and monitor maintenance budgets, ensuring cost-effective spending without compromising safety or quality. Maintain an inventory of critical spare parts and consumables for routine and emergency maintenance, working closely with suppliers to source parts and technical assistance.

Training & Documentation

Keep accurate records of maintenance activities and performance metrics, generating reports for management review. Provide training for Mechanical and IC&E staff, and update procedures and training manuals as needed. Ensure ongoing training and certification for LOTO safety procedures.

Working Relationships

The Maintenance Planner reports directly to the Maintenance Manager and follows general guidance from plant management. This role interfaces with contractors and original equipment manufacturers (OEM) to coordinate necessary support and ensure efficient operations.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection and others must be worn in the performance of some duties. Work with hazardous materials may be required. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.

Fitness for Duty

All personnel will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening.  

Work Schedule

This position offers a Monday to Friday work schedule, during regular dayshift hours. Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload, and plant conditions. "On call" status will periodically be required.

Compensation

Initial compensation will range from $49 to $67 per hour and will include an annual performance bonus.

Job Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent with the ability to understand and follow procedures and instructions relevant to the area of assignment. Extensive experience in power generation or industrial plant environments, with expertise in maintaining and operating complex systems such as turbines, generators, HRSGs, and high-voltage equipment. Skilled in developing and implementing maintenance schedules for industrial equipment, including turbines and generators, based on operational needs and manufacturer guidelines. Proven experience in planning and scheduling major maintenance projects using Microsoft Project or similar software to create detailed plans, allocate resources, and track progress. Proficient in using CMMS (especially Maximo) to streamline workflows, manage work orders, and optimize maintenance practices for improved reliability. Strong understanding of high-voltage electrical systems, including generators, switchgear, and transformers, ensuring safe and efficient power distribution. Experience in managing maintenance budgets to optimize costs while upholding safety and quality standards. Proven leader in reliability improvement projects with experience in providing technical training and developing staff skills in mechanical, electrical, and IC&E disciplines. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
