Rockford Overview

The Owens Corning Rockford IL is a premier manufacturing facility that manufactures extruded polystyrene foam board insulation for primary use in the construction industry.

Non-union plant employing about 70 employees across 4 shifts; Maintenance team consists of 10 employees. We are committed to providing a safe and healthy workplace for all, while also meeting our obligations to preserve the environment We proudly support our local community with fundraisers, activities, and group donations

The Maintenance Specialist is accountable for performing both routine and non-routine maintenance tasks, as well as handling downtime activities. This role requires the ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with other maintenance and production team members as the situation dictates.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of process workflows, equipment systems, controls, and associated support machinery. Utilize PLC to independently diagnose and troubleshoot equipment issues, demonstrating exceptional electrical troubleshooting skills and a strong mechanical foundation. Execute both routine and non-routine maintenance tasks on process and support equipment, including the fabrication of components based on sketches and verbal instructions, showcasing adept problem-solving capabilities. Articulate work activities, equipment malfunctions, and proposed solutions clearly and effectively to colleagues, maintenance teams, shift supervisors, and management, using both verbal and written formats. Work collaboratively with maintenance technicians or independently as directed by the Maintenance Leads, exhibiting strong initiative and judgment in executing tasks. Lead major maintenance projects on all equipment, employing both self-driven efforts and teamwork with co-workers or production personnel. Distinguish between symptoms and underlying problems to ensure effective corrective actions are implemented, fostering a culture of continuous improvement. Actively pursue knowledge enhancement through formal training programs, external workshops, and self-directed learning opportunities. Demonstrate initiative and attention to detail in all task executions, including clean-up, documentation of activities, inventory management, and proactive communication to support operational integrity. Adhere rigorously to all plant policies, safety regulations, and cleanliness protocols to maintain a safe and orderly work environment. Maintain regular attendance and punctuality, demonstrating reliability and accountability in your role. Execute all other duties as assigned to support team objectives and operational needs. Provide guidance and training to junior maintenance technicians, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and skill development within the team. Use SAP to accurately complete all documentation, research parts, input suggestions on PM & BOM updates.

Must be able to read, write, and speak English Must be able to understand verbal and written instructions Must possess strong communication and organizational skills Must have the ability to multi-task and must have a critical eye for inspections Must have strong internal and external customer service skills Must work well in team environment Must be able to work independently with limited supervision Efficient in execution and prioritization of multiple tasks Above average troubleshooting of mechanical equipment in an industrial environment Understanding, experience, and troubleshooting capabilities with industrial electrical Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude in an industrial environment Controls Knowledge Intermediate troubleshooting skills using PLC Ladder Logic Able to read and understand electrical prints and schematics. Ability to complete intermediate mathematical calculations. 

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma or GED Equivalent is required Associates Degree in Maintenance or Industrial Technology preferred Either a 2-year Industrial Electrical Degree or 1-2 years’ equivalent experience in an industrial environment. Must have a minimum of 5+ years’ experience in a manufacturing environment; proven electrical, mechanical, welding, and lift truck experience Minimum of 2 years of Allan Bradly Logix System experience High degree of mechanical ability and aptitude with proven ability to troubleshoot and perform repairs on electro-mechanical equipment.

 

Essential Physical Requirements/Work Environment

Ability to routinely lift up to 50 lbs. without assistance Work up to 12 hours in hot/cold manufacturing environment Walk/stand on concrete floor continuously for up to 12 hours Safeguard self with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) - steel-toed shoes, eye protection (glasses, goggles, and/or facemask) hearing protection and long-sleeved shirt (with shirt tail tucked in) as necessary for task Use cleaning equipment or tools as necessary for housekeeping duties in accordance with all safety rules.
