RESPONSIBILITIES
The Maintenance Superintendent will lead and oversee the maintenance and repair of buildings, structures, equipment, and vehicles at one of its facilities. This critical position ensures the uninterrupted service and safe operation of facility infrastructure, including electrical power systems, ventilation, roadway pavement, and lighting.
The Maintenance Superintendent will supervise maintenance staff, manage contractors, and coordinate with multiple internal departments and external agencies to maintain the highest operational standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Direct and manage scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of infrastructure, equipment, and vehicles.
Ensure continuous operation of facility systems, including electrical power, ventilation, and roadway infrastructure.
Supervise represented maintenance employees and outside contractors, ensuring efficient and effective operations.
Maintain the safety of MTA Bridges and Tunnels employees and customers by adhering to safety protocols and responding promptly to emergencies.
Lead snow operations and provide critical support during storms, emergencies, and extreme weather events.
Efficiently manage the facility's budget, including OTPS and overtime expenses.
Oversee the procurement of materials and equipment for critical repairs and projects, ensuring timely delivery.
Provide and supervise maintenance support for Open Road Tolling (ORT), weather systems, and other critical technology infrastructure.
Ensure the proper operation of variable message signs (VMS) and travel time displays, supporting seamless traffic management.
Collaborate with internal departments, including Engineering and Construction, Health and Safety, and Technology, to plan and execute maintenance activities.
Coordinate with external agencies and entities such as FDNY, NYC Department of Environmental Protection (NYCDEP), and other governmental organizations.
Must hold and maintain required FDNY certifications for fire standpipes, fuel handling, welding, burning, and compressors.
QUALIFICATIONS
+ This position is open to TBTA employees who are employed under the title of Bridge and Tunnel Supervisor, or permanently employed under the title of Maintainer (Bridges and Tunnels) Level 3
+ Thirteen (13) years of satisfactory full-time maintenance experience.
+ Additional education may be substituted in lieu of experience.
+ Three (3) years of supervisory/managerial experience in maintenance.
+ Must have a driver’s license valid in the State of New York.
+ Supervisory and technical experience in the areas of bridge and tunnel maintenance and repairs.
+ Knowledge of bridge and tunnel systems such as lighting, communications, pumps, signal controls, power distribution & lift spans, and automotive equipment.
+ Understanding of EAM (Enterprise Asset Management) and the Maintenance Organization’s role in the EAM process at B&T.
+ Knowledge of B&T Rules Regulations and policies.
+ Ability to manage a workforce in a manner that is consistent with the Authority’s rules and regulations and employ efficient and effective maintenance procedures.
+ Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
+ Ability to obtain FDNY Certificate of Fitness for Sprinkler Systems and Standpipes, Air Compressors , Flammable Gases, and Safe Fuel Handling, OSHA 10 and OSHA 30.
+ Ability to be on call 24/7 and report to any of MTA Bridges & Tunnels seven bridges and two tunnel locations as needed
+ Ability to inspire, guide, and manage a diverse team of maintenance personnel.
+ Skilled in diagnosing issues and implementing efficient, cost-effective solutions.
+ Experience managing budgets and prioritizing expenditures to achieve operational goals.
+ Commitment to maintaining a safe working environment for staff and customers.
+ Adept at working across departments and with external agencies to achieve shared goals.
