Maintenance Supervisor

Chalk Point Generation Station, located in Aquasco, Maryland, is a major power generation facility with a total capacity of approximately 1618 MW. The station comprises nine units, including seven gas turbines, and two steam turbines. This configuration allows the station to effectively meet regional energy demands.

Opportunity Summary

The Maintenance Supervisor safeguards the Owner's investments by overseeing machinery and facility maintenance, emphasizing adherence to Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) programs for safety and environmental stewardship. Steering continuous improvement involves refining policies and procedures, providing leadership to personnel, and ensuring effective task execution. Additionally, managing maintenance operations optimizes equipment performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness, contributing to informed decision-making through comprehensive reporting and budget monitoring.

Primary Duties

Your scope of responsibility as Maintenance Supervisor will include the following primary functions: 

Protect the Owner’s investment by overseeing the inspection, maintenance, and control of all production, auxiliary, and facility equipment, ensuring optimal performance and minimal downtime. Lead compliance with EH&S programs, with a focus on safety and environmental responsibility, ensuring all regulatory and company policies are followed. Review and update plant policies and procedures regularly, ensuring alignment with operational goals, and providing clarity for personnel. Provide leadership and direction to the maintenance team, conducting performance reviews, managing rewards and discipline, and fostering continuous development to ensure efficient team performance. Manage the Lock-Out / Tag-Out (LOTO) system in compliance with relevant standards, ensuring workplace safety and regulatory adherence. Assign and supervise tasks, ensuring daily responsibilities are carried out effectively while tracking individual and team performance. Develop and execute long-term maintenance plans, integrating daily, weekly, and monthly schedules to optimize equipment reliability and operational performance. Oversee warehouse inventory management, ensuring the availability of critical spare parts and supplies, and collaborate with the purchasing department to procure equipment and materials in a cost-effective and timely manner, optimizing stock levels and supporting maintenance activities. Coordinate and manage contractors, negotiating contracts, overseeing scope and quality of work, ensuring cost-effectiveness, and ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards. Plan and oversee maintenance outages, collaborating with the Maintenance Manager to ensure minimal disruption to operations and to maintain equipment availability. Implement and monitor preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs, ensuring operational reliability and minimizing unplanned downtime. Maintain comprehensive maintenance records (e.g., operating hours, costs, and availability), and provide regular reports to the Plant Manager for strategic decision-making. Assist in budget development and resource planning, working with the Maintenance Manager to monitor the plant budget, and plan workforce development initiatives. Participate in facility audits, ensuring compliance with company quality and safety standards, and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement. Oversee the maintenance and troubleshooting of electrical systems, including transformers, switchgear, and distribution panels, to ensure optimal performance and safety compliance. Manage control systems such as DCS, PLCs, and SCADA, including calibration, troubleshooting, and upgrades, to ensure seamless plant operations and system reliability. Supervise the optimization of the DCS, managing system diagnostics, software updates, and integration with plant equipment to enhance efficiency and reduce system downtime. Perform additional duties as required by the Maintenance Manager, demonstrating adaptability in a dynamic operational environment.

Working Relationships

The Maintenance Supervisor reports to the Maintenance Manager and receives general direction from other plant Management. This role may involve supervising and overseeing some Maintenance personnel, as well as coordinating with all plant personnel.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Physical requirements include the possibility of standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing and lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g., hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.

Fitness for Duty

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. 

Work Schedule

Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload, and plant conditions. "On call" status will periodically be required.

Compensation

Initial starting compensation will range from $125,000 to $155,000 and will include an annual performance bonus.

Job Qualifications

Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired in four years of high school. Associate degree in a technical field desirable. Comprehensive expertise in machinery, equipment, and facility maintenance, covering monitoring, inspection, and control of production, auxiliary, and facility equipment to protect company investments. Extensive experience in electrical systems maintenance, ensuring compliance with safety standards and adept at troubleshooting to minimize downtime and maintain plant operation. Proficient in maintaining and troubleshooting control systems like DCS systems, optimizing them for efficiency and reliability, including software updates and diagnostics. Proven leadership in driving compliance with EH&S programs within the plant leadership team, fostering safety and environmental stewardship. Demonstrated ability to review, update, and align plant policies and procedures with operational goals for clarity, relevance, and effectiveness. Excellent communication and supervision skills to provide clear direction, motivation, and supervision to personnel, ensuring efficient performance. Proficiency in managing a LOTO system for safety and regulatory compliance. Strong organizational and planning abilities in developing and managing long-term maintenance plans, optimizing equipment performance, and supporting plant operations. Must possess a valid and unrestricted driver's license, ensuring it remains in good standing at all times.
