SUMMARY

The Maintenance Supervisor Trainee plays a critical role in the daily execution of Maintenance work at the Roofing Plant.  They must demonstrate the ability to motivate people and be viewed as a clear and credible communicator.  They must have a passion for safety and be able to foster effective working relationships with plant employees and leaders.   Flexibility and the ability to manage stress are needed to handle the challenges in an ever-changing production environment. This job requires organization and administration expertise for effective scheduling and execution of day- to-day maintenance activities. 

 

This position reports to the plant Maintenance Leader.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Safety:

Follows the plant safety process and ensures that good safety habits are instilled in the craft labor. Maintains an awareness of all safety issues within area of responsibility, and responds with appropriate urgency to correct safety issues identified. Monitor Maintenance areas for proper housekeeping. Ensures a safe work environment through employee coaching and engagement and a strict adherence to OC’s safety policies and procedures.  Ensures a hazard assessment has been completed before any maintenance work is started.  Inspect and monitor work areas, examine tools and equipment, and provide employees safety training to prevent, detect, and correct unsafe conditions or violations of procedures and safety rules.

 

RWP

Work Identification Pre-Screen all Maintenance-generated orders prior to the Daily Approval Meeting Attend Daily Approval Meeting and recommend the action to be taken on each Notification Follow-up with each craftsman who generates a Notification that requires additional information. Update the Maintenance Planner Group from “Maintenance Supervisor” to “New Notifications” for Notifications to be reviewed at the next Daily Approval Meeting. Follow-up with each craftsman who generates a Notification that is rejected.  After follow-up, update the Maintenance Planner Group from “Maintenance Supervisor” to “Rejected”. 

 

Planning Plan Emergency and Urgent Work as required ensuring the right material is on hand and the job can be completed safely

 

Weekly Schedule Review Maintenance Backlog to ensure plant priorities are being addressed Partner with OMC to reach a consensus on Preliminary Weekly Schedule Attend Weekly Schedule meeting to reach consensus among all stakeholders

 

Daily Schedule Generate the Daily Schedule for the next work day from the Weekly Schedule Assign 100% of available resources to safely and efficiently execute the Daily Schedule Facilitate the Daily Schedule Meeting and reaches consensus with the OMC  Partner with OMC to insert Emergency and Urgent Work into the Daily Schedule Post the Daily Schedule each afternoon

 

Execution Provide leadership to ensure the safe and efficient execution of the Weekly Schedule Review and distribute scheduled Job Packages at the beginning of the work day Ensure all Urgent and Emergency Work Orders are planned Continuously update the OMC of changes in equipment availability Ensure 100% of maintenance hours and material are accurately captured in SAP Ensure all completed work is properly documented in Activity Reports and Feedback forms are completed Update System Status to MCMP or RSCH for each Work Order each afternoon

 

Miscellaneous Backfill other RWP roles as required Ensure Back-up Maintenance Supervisor is proficient in the responsibilities of the role

 

Maintenance & Troubleshooting

Knowledge to perform and train on all tasks of Industrial Maintenance Technician Makes timely and appropriate decisions when an emergency or breakdown occurs so that production interruption is minimized For equipment or processes where maintenance costs are high, where reliability is low, or where chronic problems exist, performs additional analysis to identify appropriate maintenance practices (e.g., Root Cause Failure Analysis, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, Reliability-centered maintenance analysis). Uses PLC, computer interfaces for troubleshooting Performs other tasks as assigned by leader

 

Work Supervisor & Training Others

Develop and maintain working relationship with Union Keep Maintenance Leader updated on progress of new hires, development program participants, trainees, and apprentices.  Determine schedules, sequences, and assignments for work activities, based on work priority, quality of equipment, and skill of personnel. Provide effective communication within the Maintenance department as well as two-way communications with all other plant departments. Lead the Daily Maintenance shift huddles and ensure shift-to-shift communication. Recommend qualified contractors to the Maintenance Leader for performing Mechanical work at the site. Approve and coordinate contract Mechanical installations or repairs for the site. Recommend to the Maintenance Leader training and development of others  Maintain technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications; establishing professional and intercompany networks Work with Maintenance Leader to deliver semi-annual performance evaluations that are focused on growth and development and individual goals. A member of the Maintenance hiring team and onboarding of new team members. Hold employees accountable for quality and amount of work completed including proper documentation. Work with Maintenance Leader to insure maintenance shift coverage. Acts as back up for the Maintenance Leader during vacation or travel. Must maintain schedule flexibility to ensure smooth production. 

 

 

Maintenance Project Management

Work with Maintenance Leader on planning of scheduled extended maintenance downtimes Lead Capital projects as assigned by Maintenance Leader

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Competency or certification in print reading, welding/fabrication, fluid power, pneumatics, pumps, pipefitting, machine tool, precision maintenance, project management, PLC, AC/DC drives, LME,  motion control, Instrumentation Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with internal and external customers and all management levels. Computer Literacy- SAP, Microsoft Office, IP21, Must have detailed understanding of Roofing and Asphalt Plant Operations and the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used to do maintenance in those plants. Principle and practices of mechanical maintenance, machinists work, electrical maintenance, instrumentation as applied in a Roofing and Asphalt Plant.  Logic, troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills Improving the performance of others; to show or help others to learn how to do something Gathers, analyzes and interprets information to understand problems and identify and opportunities; draw conclusions and generates alternatives; chooses a course of  action based on facts; and ensures buy-in and understanding of the resulting decisions Must be highly organized and able to adapt to constantly changing demands and priorities Demonstrates a strong self-awareness of one’s strengths, development needs and the impact of one’s own behavior on others; and consistently takes action to be better Strong Interpersonal skills- works effectively and cooperatively with others; establishes and maintains good working relationships Persistence in the face of obstacles Accepting criticism and dealing calmly and effectively with high stress situations

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

The employee should have the following:

Minimum 5-10 years as a Multi-craft Industrial Maintenance Technician experience in a Manufacturing setting. PLC (Allen Bradley) troubleshooting and programming is a plus Electrical license is a plus

 

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

The employee should possess the ability to:

Industrial manufacturing environment with temperature variation Exposure to sounds or noise levels that maybe uncomfortable (hearing protection is provided; required in certain areas of the plant) Bending and twisting; repetitive movements Be able to climb up to a three floors or stairs, use full upper body movement for process; stand up to 12 hours with breaks. Use full upper body movement Handle, control or feel objects, tools or control
