The Maintenance & Technical Specialist be responsible for overseeing and coordinating the maintenance and repair activities related to HVAC systems and general building upkeep within Medisca facilities. Your role will require you to oversee contractors, ensure compliance with safety standards, and optimize HVAC system performance. Responsible for ensuring health and safety in the workplace and compliance with safety regulations and standards.
Responsibilities & Duties:
Responsible for ensuring all equipment is functioning as intended and compliant with laws and regulations. Manage all facets of preventive and corrective maintenance of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, labs, refrigeration, heating, and ventilation and air conditioning systems within the facilities (MEDISCA and CED). Provide prompt response to requests and issues from employees. Manage and review service contracts (pest control, cleaning, garbage disposal, HVAC, etc.) to ensure facility management needs are being met. Source quotations and coordinate various vendors and contractors for general building maintenance. Verify payment and invoicing match contract pricing. Oversee the work performed by vendors and contractors to ensure completion in a timely and quality manner. Inform Operations Manager of work orders status. Manage any urgent or breakdown jobs as required to keep equipment running and minimize downtime. Conduct daily and weekly audits to inspect office and facility cleanliness. Document and inspect buildings and equipment to anticipate needed repair and maintenance work. Oversee and manage preventative maintenance programs and facility inspections. Perform preventive maintenance, repair, installation and replacement of HVAC mechanical equipment. HVAC/RTU supervision, maintenance and repairs. Maintenance calibrations in Master Control and LabX. Diagnose the cause of problems and/or failures in HVAC heat pump systems to identify repairs or replacements. Coordinate repair of heat pumps and all elements of the HVAC system (including rooftop). Prepare written materials (e.g. repair status, activity logs, etc.) as required. Read and interpret plans, shop drawings and control schematics. Participate in budget preparation, administration, coordinating purchasing, documentation, and monitoring departmental expenditures. Compute estimates and actual costs of factors such as materials, labor, or outside contractors. Miscellaneous maintenance related to the building, the equipment. Calibration supervision.Health and Safety
Ensures compliance with regulations and guidelines from the Commission des Normes, de l’équité, de la Santé et de la Sécurité du travail (CNESST) and Environnement et Changement Climatique Canada (ECCC) by performing work according to practices and procedures outlined in safety policy and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Implementation of preventive and corrective actions. Takes responsibility for own safety while on the job and drives a safety focus with the entire team. Inspect and monitor work areas, examine tools and equipment, and provide employee safety training to prevent, detect, and correct unsafe conditions or violations of procedures and safety rules. Maintain effective evacuation plans and coordinate drills. Conduct fire drills every six (6) months. Conduct frequent safety audits. Assesses health and safety risks to employees and contractors as a result of implementing operational, maintenance, repair and construction activities.Travel
Participate in workshops, training and seminars as required. Occasional travel to and from vendors. Personal vehicle for commuting between sites (Henri-Bourassa and Dobrin).Qualifications:
High School Diploma. Refrigeration/HVAC Trade or Vocational certification. NATE Certification Knowledge of CNESST regulations is required. Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation is an asset. Five (5) to ten (10) years of facility management experience. Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in HVAC. Prior diagnostic/troubleshooting and preventative maintenance experience preferred. Demonstrated mechanical and technical aptitude. Ability to follow manufacturer’s specifications and schematics. Understanding of principles of preventive maintenance. Blueprint Reading, Electricity, Control Systems, Technical, Refrigeration. Effective interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to foster strong relationships. Motivation, ability, and willingness to troubleshoot and help address issues that arise during off-shifts and weekends. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Outlook, Teams and Excel) and Desigo required. Excellent communication skills; fluency in French (oral & written) required. Proficient in general maintenance and repair tasks. Strong listening skills, very customer focused and professional.
