Maintenance Technician
Job Title: Maintenance Technician Location: Kearny, NJ Job Summary: The Plant Maintenance Technician is responsible for the installation, repair, maintenance, and overall upkeep of the organization's industrial machinery, equipment, and facilities. This position requires availability for emergencies and scheduled overtime repairs and may also require working rotating shifts. Supervisory Responsibilities: None Essential Responsibilities: + Safely perform industrial mechanic work, including construction, repairs, maintenance, installation, modification, inspections, and troubleshooting of rotating equipment. + Work on pumps, blowers, compressors, bearings, valves, heat exchangers, hydraulic systems, boilers, pressure vessels, storage tanks, machine shop tools, and other industrial equipment. + Perform general maintenance tasks related to building facilities, plumbing, HVAC, and lighting. + Take precision measurements, including laser alignment. + Use the AE Plant Maintenance Module to maintain records of maintenance activities. + Work closely with other maintenance personnel, engineers, and relevant departments to understand and address maintenance needs timely, and improve equipment reliability. + Respond to emergency maintenance requests promptly and efficiently to minimize downtime. + Complete assigned work safely and per timeline and standards, identifying any deviations and providing input on areas for improvement. + Follow and maintain 5S organization and housekeeping best practices. Properly use, store, and maintain tools and equipment required for maintenance tasks. + Actively participate in all Health, Safety, Environmental, and Security training, policies, and programs. + Review and follow all safety rules, procedures, and practices. + Stay updated on new technologies and industry best practices through ongoing training and professional development. Required Skills/Abilities: + MUST HAVE A ZERO-INCIDENT MINDSET. Adhere to safety protocols and regulations to create a safe working environment. + Strong mechanical aptitude with troubleshooting ability. + Proficiency at taking precision measurements, including precision laser alignment. + Working knowledge of drawings and P&IDs. + Must exhibit a strong work ethic, dependability, initiative, and ownership. + Communicate professionally and effectively both verbally and in writing. + Ability to work well with internal customer service and maintain a sense of urgency. + Flexibility in approach to tasks and openness to change. + Must have PC skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint). + Proficiency level of a Journeyman in at least three of the following trades and a good working knowledge of the remaining: + Welder + Pipe Fitter + Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic fabrication/repairs + Millwright + Boiler Operator Certified – Black Seal or greater + Carpentry + Pump Specialist + Related Trade School Certification + Ability to serve on the plant Emergency Services Team, if needed (additional requirements). + Must have the capability to use fall suppression equipment. + Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. + Must be able to pass a 10-panel controlled substance testing and random testing after that. + Must be able to pass a background investigation check and maintain good standing order as per TSA’s TWIC criteria. Education and Experience: + High school graduate, GED, or related trade school graduate preferred, or experience working in a chemical manufacturing facility. + Proficiency level of a Journeyman in at least three of the above trades and a good working knowledge of the remaining. Physical Requirements: + Must be able to work outdoors in different climate conditions. + Must be able to walk on secure elevated process platforms more than 15 feet high. + Ability to work within magnetic fields (no pacemaker restrictions or alike). + Must have eye-hand coordination, use of both hands for gripping and twisting, mobility in climbing steps and ladders, working in confined spaces, squatting, standing, lifting up to 40 lbs, and pushing/pulling. Typical working hours/schedule: Monday through Friday 05:30 – 13:30 hrs.
