Job Description

SUMMARY

Maintains all production machinery and mechanical equipment that comprises the total process of producing PET containers to ensure efficient operation of the machines and facility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Observes all production machinery and mechanical equipment, to include electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, to ensure proper and efficient operation.

2. Troubleshoots all production machinery and mechanical equipment to locate malfunctions and repair them.

3. Dismantles machinery and mechanical equipment using appropriate lockout/tagout procedures to remove defective parts; repairs or replaces the defective parts, using hand tools and power tools.

4. Determines and orders appropriate materials and parts needed for service/repair of equipment and facility.

5. Performs preventative maintenance on all machinery.

6. Performs changeovers on all machinery as required.

7. Troubleshoots and repairs hydraulic and pneumatic controls with the aid of a schematic. 8. Uses blueprints, drawings, sketches, layouts, and equipment manuals to identify machine malfunctions.

9. Inspects product for quality defects and notifies the process lead and/or supervisor of quality issues.

10. Ensures operations are completed in accordance with Amcor Rigid Plastics USA Inc. safety procedures.

11. Effectively communicates with all internal departments.

12. Maintains a clean work area and performs general housekeeping duties.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

Associates degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interests, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand or walk for 12 hours, and is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, stoop and kneel, and climb stairs.  Regularly uses hands to handle and feel product.  The employee is regularly required to communicate with other employees and be aware of sounds in the plant.  The employee must also frequently lift and/or move 50 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Job is performed near moving mechanical parts and occasionally in high, precarious places.  Safety glasses are required to be worn.  The noise level is loud, requiring hearing protection to be worn.  GMP procedures are observed in all areas of the plant.

AUTHORIZATION

1. Ability to shut down any machine if it poses an imminent danger to employee’s health and/or safety.

2. Ability to shut down any machine because of a quality problem so suspect material can be contained.

3. Ability to shut down any if it is down three times in one hour for the same mechanical problem.

4. Authority to contact any staff or management team member with concerns, questions or suggestions pertaining to their job or work environment.

5. Initiate Corrective Actions for violations of Company policies.

6. Recommend hiring, termination and promotions of subordinates.

7. Approve expenditures up to pre-determined amount identified by corporate guidelines without prior approval of Department Manager.
