THIS POSITION WILL BE ASSIGNED TO PUBLIC WORKS - SEWER DIVISION\n

JOB SUMMARY\n

This position performs ordinary, labor-intensive tasks commonly related to water and sewer system construction and maintenance. Also assists operator in any way necessary to complete the job. Must be able to work on-call duty. Must be available to respond at any hour during an emergency when requested.\n

QUALIFICATIONS\n

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:\n\nHigh school diploma or equivalent required.\nMust possess a valid Class C Driver's License.\nMust possess a valid Texas Class \"B\" Commercial Driver's License or be able to obtain valid Class B Commercial Driver's permit within 90 days of hire date and obtain Texas Class \"B\" Commercial Driver's License within one year from hire date.\nMust be able to obtain a Class I sewer collection license and a Class D water license within one year of hire date.\n\n

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:\n\nOne year of experience in Public Works preferred.\nAbility to understand and abide by City of Conroe and Departmental policies and procedures.\nMust be able to work on-call duty and respond at any hour during an emergency when requested.\nMust be able to work as many hours as required to complete jobs.\nMust be able to attend after hours classes to renew or obtain required certifications\/licenses when necessary.\nAbility to work as many hours needed to get the work assigned completed.\nMust be able to lift weights up to 100 pounds.\nAbility to understand and follow written and oral instructions.\nAbility to use all tools to accomplish the job in an efficient manner.\nAbility to adapt to new technology, new methods and changing conditions.\nAbility to stand, stoop, kneel, or sit for long periods of time.\nMust be capable of reading, writing and communicating in English.\n\n

MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT AND WORK AIDES:\n

Shovels, pickaxes, various hand tools, air tools, boring tools, pumps, metal detectors, line locators, I-PAD\n

PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:\n

Ear and eye protection, boots, gloves, hard hat, self-contained breathing apparatus, atmospheric monitor\n

PHYSICAL DEMANDS\n

The work is heavy and requires the ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and\/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and\/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motions, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity and walking.\n
