MAINTENANCE WORKER
Summary This is a public notice flyer to notify interested applicants of anticipated vacancies. Applications will not be accepted through this flyer. Responsibilities You will repair non-infrastructure items (hanging/rehanging towel bars, rods, diverters, sink and bathtub stoppers and caulking, cabinets, light fixtures and diffusers, hinges, locking systems, and padlocks.) You will repair steps, railings, make general repairs and modifications to doors, locks, windows, drywall, shelving, and ceiling tiles. You will perform general repairs on furniture, case goods, and other wood products; to include: building specialized pallet storage systems. You will perform general plumbing repairs and modifications (leaky faucets, showers, commodes, and other bath fixtures) using basic hand and power tools. You will perform general grounds prevention maintenance and repair courtyard seating and dining systems. You will follow general maintenance and operations trade (e.g., plumbing, painting, electrical, mechanical, and structural) safety practices and guidelines in completing assignments. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to perform the job without more than normal supervision: 1) Determining the nature and extent of repairs necessary; 2) Operating trade specific hand and power tools; 3) Sufficient knowledge of safety and environmental rules and regulations; 4) Reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, sketches, and technical specifications. Education Additional Information This announcement uses the Defense Industrial Base, Major Range and Test Facilities direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Must be in good physical condition. The incumbent is required to do considerable standing, bending, walking, pushing, pulling, and climbing. Must have the ability to perform moderately strenuous physical labor as unassisted lifting, moving, and carrying of supplies and equipment weighing 45lbs (100 lbs. assisted) is required. Must be able to climb/descend stairs and ladders, stoop, bend, kneel and work in uncomfortable positions. WORKING CONDITIONS: The work involves normal risks or discomforts associated with plant operations, facility management, and/or mechanical systems. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors with potential exposure to extreme weather or temperature conditions. The employee is required to work from scaffolding, ladders, and staging platforms. Occasional exposure to dust or dirty conditions exists when visiting rooms or facilities undergoing repair, maintenance, or renovation. May be subject to industrial hazards including cuts, scrapes, bruises and falls. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required (includes safety shoes, protective eyewear, hearing protection and breathing masks). The employee may be exposed to hazards of operating power tools and industrial equipment including broken bones and dismemberment. This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.
