Summary The Pentagon Building Management Office is responsible for day-to-day operation and maintenance of the Pentagon, which has a gross floor area of 6,546,360 square feet and which houses approximately 25,000 Federal employees assigned to 14 agencies of the Department of Defense. The tenants of the Pentagon include Cabinet level officers, heads of agencies and commissions and high ranking officers of the Anny, Navy and Air Force. Incumbents typical work assignments may include the following: Assemble materials at job site. Tie steel in fonns as required. Mix and pour concrete in fonns or uses ready-mixed concrete on large jobs. Performs maintenance and repairs work on such types of roofs asphalt, slag, terra cotta, asbestos, shingle, gravel, tin, copper, galvanized iron, and corrugated steel. Perform a wide variety of carpentry duties to include framing and Sheet-rock repair, painting, caulking, and glazing Use such tools as tapes, rules, squares, hammers, hand and power saws, planes, screwdrivers, power plane, etc. Match, tints, tones, blends coating materials and combines agents such as drying agents and retardants with coating materials. You may qualify at the WG 8 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the WG 7 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your ability to: background must demonstrate a full range of Maintenance Mechanic tasks, at the highest journey level, including operating, repairing, and maintaining buildings and building support systems including heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, electrical and structural systems; interpreting mechanical, electrical and structural drawings and blueprints; applying techniques for masonry, carpentry, painting, glazing and roofing. You may qualify at the WG 5 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the WG 4 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your ability to. perform the full range of Maintenance Mechanic tasks, at the highest journey level, including applying trade methods and techniques for masonry, carpentry, painting, glazing, roofing, and door systems repair; plan, layout, and complete the installation, modification, and repair of various systems and equipment.
