UT Parking and Transportation Services is responsible for the management of over 17,000 parking spaces on campus, including 12 parking garages and more than 50 surface parking lots. Our operations include the distribution and regulation of daily, permitted, and event parking, as well as the maintenance of parking lots and garages. We also provide assistance to those parked on or traveling through campus. This assistance includes jump-starts and opening vehicles for those locked out.

Purpose

Provide custodial functions in garages such as emptying trash cans, running a sweeper and cleaning elevators and stairs. To provide advanced and semi-skilled work in the performance of a variety of maintenance and repair tasks in one or more craft areas. Work will include surface parking lots, campus streets, and university garages. Responsible for completion of assigned work without the necessity for constant instruction and supervision. May be required to work weekend, evening, comp/overtime or holidays as necessary.

Responsibilities

Custodial services. Empty trash cans; use riding sweeper; clean elevators; clean stairs. Drive UT vehicle.Provide general campus-wide maintenance for the department of Parking and Transportation Services. Work will include surface parking lots, campus streets, and university garages. Routinely performs duties in one or more of the following representative crafts and trades: surface re-striping; painting curbs; carpentry; electrical; lamping; heating, ventilating and air-conditioning (HVAC); paint; and plumbing.Other related functions as assigned. May be required to work weekend, evening, comp/overtime or holidays as necessary. Must be qualified to operate a UT Vehicle and maintain an acceptable driver qualification through the university UT Driver system.

Required Qualifications

High school graduation or GED. Two years of experience in performing installation, operation, construction, maintenance and/or repair work in a field related to the work to be performed. Must be able to bend, push, and lift; repair and maintain items, and walk stairs in garages repeatedly over an 8-hour shift. Must have professional demeanor, show attention to detail, have reliable transportation, and display punctual, dependable attendance. Current Class "C" Operator's Driver's License required. Selected applicant will have a 36-month Motor Vehicle Report requested from DMV. MVR will be evaluated to determine eligibility to drive a university-owned vehicle. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.

Preferred Qualifications

More than two years’ experience working with maintenance and/or in a parking garage environment. Experience working with surface lots, signage, street, and/or lot maintenance. Experience using a PC or compatible personal computer and experience with Microsoft Office. Experience using sign making software or comparable software. Experience working in a university environment. Experience working in a parking operation. Knowledge of UT structure, policies, rules and procedures. Able to run large sweeper.

Driver Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three-year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).
