This position will respond to general maintenance work orders not limited to, but including patching, replacing ceiling tiles, moving office furniture, repairing amenities, painting, and light bulb replacement. Successful candidate must be able to travel to all AW locations. The person in this position must have problem solving skills, strong customer service skills, and the ability to think and work independently.

Driving Requirement: This position requires a Texas Class “C” Operator’s License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation (DRE) requisite. To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months. This position will be required to travel and report to other Austin Water worksites. A criminal background investigation is required.

Hours Monday – Friday: 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
This position will be required to work on-call shifts on a rotating basis, including nights, weekends and holidays

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

Inspects buildings and equipment for needed repairs and maintenance. Repairs and maintains heating and cooling systems as required. Installs or replaces floors and ceramic tiles. Repairs or replaces electric plugs and cords. Drives vehicles as needed. Performs service on pumps, air handlers, cooling towers, etc. Repacks, changes oil/filters, lubricates, etc. Operates drills, buffers, grinders, sanders, and various power saws, i.e. radial arm, skill, etc. Operates acetylene cutting torch, welder, etc. Performs basic plumbing installations/repairs i.e. install and repair faucets, unclog drains, replace valves, etc. Performs semi-skilled carpentry work in the construction and repair of walls, ceilings, etc. Operates forklift. Reads profiles/blueprints.

Knowledge of the equipment, methods, and materials used in ground maintenance. Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing. Skill in planning and organizing. Ability to operate power tools and mechanical equipment.. Ability to read blueprints. Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other City employees and the public.
