This position involves performing manual and skilled labor to maintain the health and appearance of plants and landscapes. Key responsibilities include pruning, planting, pest control, and operating various equipment and tools to manage park and right-of-way sites, irrigation systems, and other landscaping features. You will also conduct inspections of water levels in ponds and perform maintenance and repairs on fountains and pump systems. Essential Functions Utilizes various tools and power equipment to plant, prune, weed and apply chemicals to ensure the health of plants and gardens. Installs and maintains signs, benches and other amenities on city property. Determines required traffic control procedures and implements necessary safety precautions during maintenance operations on rights-of-way. Conducts weekly inspections and repairs of irrigation systems and checks water quality levels. Monitors sprinkler coverage, water flows into ponds and water levels in fountains. Ensures an accurate and detailed record of all pesticide applications, including type of pesticide, location, mixture and amounts used as required by state law and department policy. Attends horticulture and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) training to maintain licensed applicator status. Attends safety and training classes offered through the city or other entities. Provides limited oversight to seasonal staff, volunteers and Sheriff Inmate Labor Detail (SILD) crews as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training High school diploma or equivalent and two years of experience working in parks maintenance. Knowledge of: landscape maintenance; standard safety practices related to relevant tools and equipment; Integrated Pest Management (IPM) principles for treating disease, insects and weeds; right of way safety procedures; irrigation systems and maintenance; and facility maintenance. Ability to: operate light, medium and heavy equipment; read blueprints, schematic diagrams and technical manuals; safely utilize related protective gear and safety equipment; communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; and perform all essential functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without a reasonable accommodation. Individuals must be capable of operating vehicles safely and have an acceptable driving record. Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training Four years of experience performing plant maintenance, pest control and irrigation as well as possessing an Idaho Pesticide Applicator's License issued by the Idaho State Department of Agriculture. Licensing And Other Requirements Valid state-issued driver's license. Ability to obtain an Idaho Pesticide Applicator's License issued by the Idaho State Department of Agriculture. Valid Idaho commercial driver's license within six months of employment.
