What you’ll do: You’ll supervise employees and be responsible for the overall management of security in compliance with Management & Training Corporation (MTC) and Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) directives.
Essential Functions:
Plan, coordinate and direct the security functions for the facility. Provide staff training, evaluate staff performance and implement organizational and personnel changes as approved by the warden and coordinate with the human resources manager. Assist the assistant warden in the preparation of facility budget, monitor and control expenditures. Develop and implement new and revised policies, procedures and programs affecting security. Coordinate with other staff to ensure compliance with overall facility objectives. Exercise overall supervision of lieutenants, sergeants, correctional officers and Inmates; supervise, protect, instruct, train, counsel and evaluate assigned employees and Inmates; schedule employees’ and Inmates’ work and off-duty time; make recommendations for Inmates being considered for trustee status; assisting in formulating security and work procedures. Supervise and provide custody and security of Inmates including observing actions of Inmates performing “pat” and “strip” searches of Inmates and restraining and securing sometimes assaultive Inmates. Participate in the interview and selection process of new employees, including making recommendations for new hires and promotions. Supervise and direct searches for contraband and provide security. Responds to emergencies including climbing stairs, steps, and ladders while searching for escaped Inmates, hearing calls for and calling for help, giving first aid at the emergency site, carrying an injured or unconscious Inmate or employee various distances to safety up or down stairs, steps, and ladders; and use force and deadly force to include the use of chemical agents and firearms to control Inmates.Education and Experience Requirements:
Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED. Six (6) years full-time, wage-earning correctional custody or law enforcement experience, to include three (3) years in the supervision of employees. Operational Review Sergeant or Security Threat Group Sergeant experience may be substituted for one (1) year of required supervisory experience. At least one (1) year of required supervisory experience must be as a mid-level manager (supervisor of supervisors). Thirty (30) semester hours, with a minimum of six (6) semester hours in Criminal Justice from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one (1) year of required non-supervisory experience.
