Major Giving Officer (Hybrid)

Position Objective

The Giving Officer will develop and implement a comprehensive major gift portfolio. The Officer will manage an active portfolio of prospects and secure major gifts of $10,000 and up. This position will develop and implement strategies for the identification, cultivation and stewardship of major gift donors and potential donors. This position will focus mainly on fundraising for hospice, palliative care and the LifeCare Institute.  Duties include recruiting and managing high-level volunteers within regional campaign committees and organizing cultivation and stewardship events. In collaboration with other gift officers, this promotes support for the Annual Fund and Planned Giving programs, as well as for capital or special project support, and specialized fundraising campaigns. Duties may be deleted and additional duties may be assigned at the supervisor's discretion.

Professional/Technical Competencies

1. Fundraising Knowledge

Demonstrated knowledge of fundraising terms and strategies as it pertains to donors, staff, vendors and volunteers. Particular expertise in the area of major gift strategies and techniques.

2. Marketing

Knowledge of marketing principles and strategies as they relate to fundraising and major gift procurement.

3. Ethical Practices

Demonstrated ability to adhere to regulations and policies pertaining to donors, and maintaining a high level of moral and ethical standards with regard to donor rights, etc.

Essential Functions

Establishes and monitors a Major Gifts portfolio for the Foundation.Works with the Foundation, Board members, staff and volunteers as appropriate to set annual goals for Major Gifts.Develops and manages at least one Philanthropy Council to assist in securing major gifts.Manages a portfolio of clinicians to assist in securing major gifts through the Clinician Engagement Program.Initiates the most appropriate cultivation and solicitation strategies and assists with major donor requests.Researches and identifies major gift prospects for annual, capital and special gift programs.Works closely with other Foundation staff members to establish comprehensive "moves management" plan and develops short and long-term business plans.Meets regularly with key AAHS personnel, physicians and other leaders to encourage identification of major donor prospects, as well as to understand the needs of the organization.Assists Foundation staff with cultivation and recognition events.Participates in professional networks to maintain current knowledge of laws and techniques.Functions as a key member of the development team and provides additional support as requested to ensure the success of the Foundation in its mission and goals. 

Knowledge/Experience

Required Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree in related field

Required Minimum Experience: 3 to 5 years progressive fundraising experience.

Required License / Certifications:  None

Experience in prospect research/identification and proposal writing preferred.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Positive attitude and team-oriented.

Personal computer skills and experience with contact management and Excel databases required. Raiser’s Edge experience preferred.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.

There is reasonable expectation that employees in this position will not be exposed to blood-borne pathogens.
