Job Title: Utility Design Engineer
Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Utility Design Engineer to join our team in Livonia. This role involves designing power distribution infrastructure, ensuring compliance with quality, time, and budget constraints. You will be responsible for executing work orders, applying design guidelines, and performing permitting and easement duties.

ResponsibilitiesExecute work orders for the design of power distribution infrastructure while meeting quality, time, and budget constraints.Perform end-to-end Make-Ready/Joint-use and general distribution design, applying established design guidelines, processes, and procedures.Conduct pole loading analysis, field data review, data entry, and other related tasks to complete design and construction prints.Use Open Utilities software for the design portion, which is based on Microstation/Autocad.Utilize PoleForeman software for pole loading and analysis to support design and construction of overhead distribution systems.Develop detailed design prints using CAD software.Ensure compliance with National Electric Safety Codes (NESC) to prevent interference between third-party attachments and electrical utility components.Essential SkillsAssociates or Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or direct experience in utility design, distribution, Make Ready, or Joint Use work.Experience with Microstation, Autocad, or similar design software.Knowledge of utility infrastructure, pole installation, clearances, transformers, distribution lines, and down guys.Familiarity with ESRI or ArcGIS software mapping tools.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience with PLS-CAD, O-Calc, or similar software.Understanding of National Electric Safety Codes (NESC).Ability to develop detailed designs using CAD software such as Bentley, Microstation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or Solidworks.Previous experience in communication company work related to utility design is a plus.Work Environment

The role requires daily reporting to the office in Livonia, with potential flexibility for a hybrid work schedule once consistent quality is demonstrated. The company is moving into a new, state-of-the-art facility to accommodate growth. There are opportunities for career advancement into leadership or project management roles based on performance.

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $40.00
