We are hiring a Distribution Designer to join our Power Distribution Engineering team within our growing Power Sector.
ResponsibilitiesPerform detailed design of overhead and/or underground electric distribution systems, including preparation of field notes, drawings, specifications, and design estimates.Interact analytically with various individuals including engineers and experienced distribution system designers.Develop a working knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), national engineering standards, utility construction standards, and best industry engineering practices.Gain broad knowledge of engineering disciplines, including design and constructability as applied to construction methods and materials, and the economics involved.Maintain production and quality of projects, including field data, photographs, engineering analysis, reports, departmental reports, and databases; manage all documents and records per departmental guidelines.Prepare and modify electrical and roadway drawings, specifications, calculations, charts & graphs, and construction drawing packages.Perform various field technical services for the operation, inspection, and maintenance of electrical distribution systems including system inventories and audits, joint use management and permitting, pad-mount inspections, ground-line pole inspections, metering and apparatus services, lighting audits, etc.Collect field data using laptop computers, tablet devices, GPS, and other electronic devices for input into database software.Develop working knowledge of telephone, cable, and other communication facilities.Operate necessary equipment to take measurements on utility poles and mid-span facilities, perform pole inspections, and inspect and maintain pad-mount equipment.Present ideas effectively in both formal and informal situations, communicate well in writing, and use proper ethics in email and telephone communications.Keep supervisors and coworkers informed, share complete and accurate information, and communicate clearly both verbally and in writing with all levels in the organization and with outside clients and agencies.Perform other duties as assigned.Essential SkillsHigh school diploma.Associate degree in electrical, civil, or mechanical engineering or a similar discipline (preferred).Entry-level with an Associate’s degree in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering.1+ years of Electric Utility or telecommunications field experience (preferred).Familiarity with National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) (preferred).Knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office applications.Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar programs (preferred).Proficient use of engineering software (preferred).Valid driver’s license required.Additional Skills & QualificationsWillingness to travel 50% for fielding activities, including overnight stays.Ability to perform data entry and designing tasks.Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.Job Type
This is a Contract-to-Hire position with a duration of 9 Month(s). During the initial 9 months, you will be employed through Actalent Services where you will have access to full benefits (medical, dental, vision, PTO, holiday pay, and 401k). After 9 months you will be eligible to transition to the engineering firm as a direct employee.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
