Summary

Performs high quality breast imaging and follows guidelines as established by the ARRT, ODH, MQSA and ACR.  Performs all diagnostic and screening mammography and DEXA bone density exams according to established policy and procedure for interpretation and subsequent evaluation and treatment by attending physician.  The technologist will rotate between facilities. Weekend coverage of mobile mammography events and possible weekend mammography coverage is required for this position.

             Essential Job Functions Performs high quality diagnostic and screening mammogram procedures for breast imaging and DEXA scans. Performs and/or assists with breast biopsy proceduresProcedures include but are not limited to breast and DEXA proceduresEnsures orders are received for all imaging to be completedObtains history for exams, explains exams and addresses any patient questions or concernsOperates imaging equipment in the prescribed manner by using appropriate settings, controls and protocolsReviews and evaluates completed tests for quality, completeness and ensures quality imagesAssists physicians in procedures ensuring sterile technique is adhered to and ensures informed consent obtained by the performing physicianCompletes all paperwork timely and uses PACS to send images for interpretation and storage. Provides service in a timely manner. Contacts service when indicated.  Orders and stocks supply/linen.  Assists with QA as assignedTravels between all mammography locations and multiple mobile event sitesMaintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvement, safety, environmental and infection control standards.Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature and in-services.  Maintains continuing education credits to meet licensure standards for ARRT, ACR and MQSA.Other duties as assigned

Follows rules and regulations of the ODH QA program 3701:1-66, ODH radiation protection standards 3701: 1-38. ODH Licensing requirements 3701-72

Patient PopulationDemonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.  Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age, specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures.

Licensure/Certification Required:

ARRT, ODH, CPR (BLS), Mammography registered or registry eligible

Minimum Years and Type of Experience:

6 months experience preferred.

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Must be able to work independently, take initiative and communicate easily and openly with peers. Requires a valid state driver’s license or access to be driven to remote mobile event locations.
