Job Summary

Works independently to perform digital screening and diagnostic mammography imaging based on hospital policies and/or practice standards, under the supervision of the interpreting physician. Must demonstrate an understanding of breast anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology. Must maintain accuracy in breast positioning, exposure techniques, and image evaluation while adhering to radiation protection and safety standards. Must understand the federal regulations governing mammography practice in order to meet the standards for the performance of breast imaging. Must have knowledge of the quality assurance policies and quality control testing for mammography within federal regulation guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education: Graduate of an AMA approved School of Radiologic Technology
Minimum Years of Experience: None.
Substitutable Education & Experience: None.
Required Certifications/Licensure: Certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT);
Certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Mammography (Must have and maintain current biennium ARRT continuing education credits);
Must have received/applied for South Carolina state license with SCRQSA;
Must possess and maintain current CPR certification.
Required Training: Must have personal computer skills and be able to perform required functions in current hospital computer system and PACS.

Essential Functions Exhibits knowledge of principles, practices and procedures and demonstrates competency in performing digital screening and diagnostic mammography imaging, needle localization, stereotactic biopsy, breast ultrasound, ultrasound biopsy, localization and cyst aspiration, and specimen imaging demonstrating all the anatomical structures of the breast.  Provide and promote quality care in accordance with hospital standards utilizing the hospital, radiology and mammography policies and procedures. Ability to troubleshoot basic technical/equipment problems and communicate with service. Ability to work in a timely manner eliminating unnecessary delays in all procedures. Identify patient needs: comfort patient by anticipating anxiety, answer questions, maintain a kind and courteous attitude, respect patient privacy and confidentiality. Practice cost effective use of supplies. Follows HIPAA Guidelines when obtaining and sending patient medical information. Assist interpreting physician with invasive procedures in breast imaging as directed and /or document activities related to policy and procedure. Apply knowledge of the principles of radiation protection for the patient, self and others. Duties & Responsibilities Ability to perform digital mammography equipment QC or trained in house within 6 months. Understands and supports mission statement, rules, regulations, policies, procedures and protocols of Lexington Medical Center. Attends pertinent staff development programs including all in-service mandatory classes.  Maintain continuing educational programs per MQSA, ACR requirements.  Arrives to work on time and is prepared to begin work promptly. Adheres to work schedule and is flexible when schedule requires. Demonstrates competence to provide developmentally psycho-social care/treatment for the following patient population: Child (9-12 years) Adolescent (13-17 years) Adult (18-65 years) Geriatric (Over 65 years) Demonstrates good Service Expectations keeping Press Ganey scores high. Performs all other duties as assigned.
