MANAGEMENT SUPPORT SPECIALIST
Summary Who May Apply: The public Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS) mission is to lead the DoD in finance and accounting by ensuring the delivery of efficient, exceptional quality pay and financial information. Please note, these positions are NOT eligible for remote telework. Responsibilities Develops and presents, both orally and in writing, recommendations for corrections of deficiencies and improvements in processes to operating officials. Reviews and analyzes a variety of reports received from internal and external sources. Analyzes and evaluates review or examination findings and develops formalized reports to include recommendations and identification of suggested changes to improve efficiencies and effectiveness. Performs analysis and makes recommendations for corrective or process improvement actions to foster increased efficiency and reductions in operations costs. Determines the need for plans and develops special studies pertaining to forecasts, projections or estimates having current or future protection related program implications. Confers with personnel at all levels. Prepares recommendations and assesses implementation of recommended changes. Evaluates successes and failures of services to define areas of growth and continuous improvement. Continually analyzes processes and develops goals, objectives, tools, and procedures for creating improved processes and products. Reviews proposed actions and recommendations for accuracy, responsiveness, clarity, and impact on both short- and long-term strategies. Prepares detailed written or oral reports on findings from review and analysis of projects and programs which include narrative and/or graphs, charts, and other exhibits as required to reflect and/or explain the status of the program. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Human Resources will determine your qualifications for each entry grade level based on your interest and the additional following criteria. One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-11) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required. Specialized Experience Is Defined As: Conducting studies to identify and initiate process changes which address/resolve procedural deficiencies and analyze cost and impact to risk areas, also providing analytical support to the Force Protection Chief on various projects and programs. Paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social) is qualifying. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience. Education Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be used to substitute for the specialized experience requirement. Additional Information Moving expenses WILL BE paid. This position is EXEMPT from the Fair Labor Standards Act. Travel requirement is 1-24%. This position IS covered by a bargaining unit. Pay for first time hires to the Federal Government will typically be set at step 1 salary range for their respective grade level. The Security Designation will vary and dependent upon position and may require a secret clearance or higher.
