Optum StepWise Automated Rating is a proprietary software platform that delivers centralized rate management, financial modeling, and automated quoting across products and lines of business. Its enterprise-level rate engine, block management tools, and underwriting application enhance financial management, improve sales channel responsiveness, and increase operational agility.
As a Manager, Optum Advisory, you will work directly with our payer clients on StepWise implementations, including requirements gathering, solution design, configuration, and testing. Ideal candidates will have a background in commercial healthcare underwriting or actuarial pricing combined with a strong technical aptitude and a desire to solve complex problems using cutting-edge software tools. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must; this is a direct client-facing role.

Primary Responsibilities:
Work with the StepWise software to design and configure rating algorithms, factor tables, and proposal outputs Work with the StepWise software to design and configure user experiences (including health plan sales and underwriting users) Work with the StepWise software to design and configure business process / workflow automation Use Excel and SQL-based systems to solve clients’ business problems Present solution design and configurations to peers and clients Become a trusted advisor to our clients by:Learning, understanding, and adhering to StepWise configuration best practices Understanding our clients’ business, goals, and place within the market Setting and managing clear expectations with clients Being transparent, accountable, and following through on commitments Communicating project status and risks often and early Acting as a main point of contact both during a project and after implementation is complete Assist in project and client management Lead and manage critical meetings across entire scope of work Conduct StepWise end-user and super-user training Assist with project scoping and requirements gathering Assist with writing contracts and developing pricing models Understand industry issues, changes, and potential impacts and opportunities for the StepWise consulting team Manage a variety of issues while driving momentum of key projects Lead segments of work and manage deliverables Be capable of meeting multiple project deadlines with minimal supervision Oversee junior consultants’ work and serve as a subject matter expert for others Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, is tactful and listens well Work with less structured, more complex issues

Required Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree in a quantitative discipline Years of post-high school education can be substituted/is equivalent to years of experience 5+ years of Actuarial, Underwriting, or related experience in the commercial healthcare industry 2+ years of experience in healthcare rating systems development/administration 2+ years of experience writing SQL queries Advanced level of proficiency with Microsoft Excel - including complex formulas and macros / VBAPreferred Qualifications:
Experience working with the StepWise Suite Experience with various reporting technologies (e.g., Tableau, PowerBI) Experience with user interface design Familiarity with XML / JSON*All employees working remotely will be required to adhere to UnitedHealth Group’s Telecommuter Policy

Residents Only: The salary range for this role is $104,700 to $190,400 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
