ROLE:  Individual will coordinate daily news coverage on broadcast and digital platforms, maintain assignment desk functions, uphold performance standards according to policy, and perform duties as required as part of FOX 5/KUSI’s news management team.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manages a team of assignment desk staff to find relevant, compelling, original news contentLeads daily editorial meetings; decides daily broadcast and digital content, assign crews & manages field crews’ workflow and technical logistics throughout dayWorks with reporters, photographers, producers to determine story selection, elements and backup ideasKeeps newsroom informed of story developments throughout dayListens to scanners, answers phones and emails, regularly research and vets story pitches Coordinates live shots and content sharing with affiliates, FOX, News Nation and other partnersLeads the planning and execution of station and corporate news projectsCollaborates with other news managers on long term planning, news events, station strategyMaintains various station accounts used by the desk for gathering and confirmation informationPosts stories to station digital platforms and social media sites as neededRepresents and enforces station policy Schedules staff, conducts performance reviews, hire and grow staffOther duties as they arise

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism preferred; minimum 5-years experience in a top 50 market newsroomPrevious management experience preferredKnowledge of San Diego area a plus
