The mission of the Information Technology Group (ITG) is to develop, implement, and maintain technology-based services and solutions enabling OHSU to effectively manage information to accomplish its missions.
Function/Duties of PositionWe are seeking an exceptionally talented and experienced IT manager with a drive for innovation to lead and manage the BI team of research data engineers and BI platform administrators. As a leader in OHSU’s Business Intelligence & Advanced Analytics Division (BIAA), you will closely partner with OHSU’s research mission in executing OHSU’s research informatics vision. The ideal candidate will have prior experience delivering research data and analytics solutions, working within an academic medical center, working with the Epic Clarity and Caboodle systems, building large-scale data processing systems, managing data warehouse solutions, leveraging big data platforms, and proven success in growing analytic capabilities. This will include delivering new systems and maintaining them once implemented.
The primary areas of focus and responsibility for this position include technical team leadership, research engineering and data system leadership, and BI platform configuration, administration, and support oversight, which are necessary to drive the delivery of data and analytic solutions that support the OHSU mission.
The Technical Team Leadership responsibilities include staff recruitment, development, retention, oversight of work products, and accountability of the team’s deliverables and provided services. To ensure the expected team performance, the lead will establish communication best practices, facilitate collaboration with external stakeholders, and consistently deliver project timelines. This includes ensuring alignment of work with established priorities, effective management of team members through clear and consistent communication of goals, alignment with institutional priorities, setting expectations, and providing feedback to facilitate professional growth and development of team capabilities. In addition, all BIAA leaders must consistently apply OHSU values to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the team and in the team’s interactions with peers and business partners.The Research Engineering and Data System Leadership responsibilities include successful implementation and ongoing support of assigned technical projects and system maintenance supporting the research mission. These efforts consist of collaborative partnerships with initiative stakeholders, ensuring the application of project governance, effectively initiating technical implementations, change management, and maintaining plans for the growth and evolution of critical data and analytic capabilities. Examples of technical leadership responsibilities include providing oversight and guidance for implementing new Research Data Warehouse (RDW) capabilities, maintenance of the associated systems, and application of efficient technical processes in support of the various research data needs. This includes the implementation of technical solutions to support policies for research data governance as required by OHSU Office of Privacy, Security, and HIPAA/IRB regulations. To facilitate these efforts it will be necessary to partner with the research leaders that have invested in these resources, as well as other technical partners such as other BIAA teams, the Technical Infrastructure Design & Engineering (TIDE) team, other ITG divisions, and other technical teams involved in implementing and maintaining components of the infrastructure that support the research data systems. Leadership and oversight of the BI Platform Configuration, Administration, & Support (PCAS) resources and process. This includes supervising the administrative resources responsible for critical reporting systems such as Epic Clarity, Epic Caboodle Data Warehouse, and associated data engineering and BI analytics and visualization platform servers (BusinessObjects, Cognos, Power Bi, Tableau, etc). As the leader this position is responsible for ensuring that these systems are maintained according to established best practices and meet SLAs for availability. In addition to system availability overseeing the BI system administrators will include ensuring regular engagement with key vendors such as Epic as well as representatives from peer organizations or industry that will help inform efficient processes and future technical opportunities. These services support all missions of the organization and provide a valuable vantage point for the person in this position to identify and facilitate development of systems that efficiently meet the needs of all mission areas. Required QualificationsEducation:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Clinical/Medical Informatics or related field; OR
Advanced degree (master’s or above) would substitute for four years work related experience
Experience:
