The Lead, Business Development for Amex GBT Meetings & Events is responsible for the successful sales of our meetings & events solutions for prospective clients. This role will apply strong collaborative and relationship building skills to demonstrate their own network but also the channel resources of multiple Amex GBT internal resources to grow pipeline and increase selling opportunity.
The role will include advising and handling all aspects of the sales process including (but not limited to) qualification meetings, RFP proposals, presentations, pricing, contracting, negotiations and internal kick offs. This role will provide comprehensive strategic & event by event solutions ensuring minimum SLAs and internal measurements are met.
**What You'll Do**
+ Identify, handle, and drive prospects through the selling lifecycle in the local market environment
+ Assess client-specific needs and develop a client-specific value proposition and pricing
+ Present a customized value proposition to client executive-level staff and to multiple partners
+ Align with operational and sales leadership on proposed value proposition from a servicing and profit perspective
+ Successful project lead client proposals and RFP responses meeting all results and deadlines
+ Close profitable sales within set pricing guidelines
+ Handle internal processes around pricing and contracting approvals
+ Partner across American Express Business Travel, Consulting & Card client managers and sales teams locally to drive new sales opportunities
+ Partner with American Express Meetings & Events colleagues to drive cross team collaboration for joint sales opportunities
+ Lead prospect relationship data into CRM systems aligning with departmental SOPs & process
+ Reviews and updates the CRM system with accurate financial data on a weekly basis
+ Holds self and others accountable for business results.
+ Provides meeting industry and product subject matter expertise from the pre-proposal stage to proposal qualification/development/delivery.
+ Assists in growth opportunities within existing accounts (as needed).
+ Participates in client meetings and presentations to explain proposal & value of partnership.
+ Brings up obstacles while communicating solutions to Director.
+ Develops strategic partnerships with multiple contacts within client and supplier organizations.
+ Develops and maintains client relationship plans passionate about consultation & standard process sharing.
+ Maintains proactive, positive, open line of communication with client to ensure understanding of expectations and client happiness.
**What We’re Looking For**
+ 5-7 years of business development experience specifically associated with the hospitality, travel and/or meetings & events industry
+ Consultative communication skills, including presentation, sales and negotiation in a business to business environment
+ High team orientation and collaboration skills
+ Very good knowledge and network within the Meetings & Events industry
+ Ability to grow internal and external relationships by providing insight and advice to improve meetings and event solutions value and profitability
+ Strong financial foresight
+ Confirmed ability to promote change and efficiencies within an organization.
+ Demonstrated ability to think strategically and conceptually, using strong analytical skills
+ Excellent interpersonal and communications skills and experience at handling client expectations
+ Demonstrated outstanding organizational & time management abilities
+ Ability to lead, influence and motivate others - indirect reports, internal and external
+ Prior experience in effectively balance multiple projects/demands.
+ Outstanding project management skills
+ Outstanding presentation & negotiation skills
+ Demonstrated client relationship skills
+ Ability to travel by airplane, boat, rail and/or car.
+ Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred
+ CMP and/or SMMC designation a plus.
This position is based in North America reports directly to the Director of Sales North America.
**Location**
United States
The US national annual base salary range for this position is from $70,000 to $140,000. The national range provided includes the base salary that GBT expects to pay for the role. Actual base salary will be based on factors including the scope and complexity of the role and the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, knowledge, and work location.
