Team Management:
+ Screens and interviews candidates, matches candidates to open positions, coordinates candidate interviews, and coordinates with HR on the hiring process.
+ Manages assigned faculty support staff. Responsible for training, supervising, coaching, and mentoring staff. Holds regular check-ins with staff. Supports skill building, career development, and team retention.
+ Builds and maintains an efficient, high performing team that supports faculty research and teaching.
+ Engages with faculty to receive performance feedback and conducts performance discussions and problem resolution with faculty support staff. Ensures completion of the SEAS performance management process for their staff.
+ Fosters team-building and positive work relationships within and across teams at SEAS.
+ Arranges area staff meetings and trainings to foster communication, information sharing, and team building.
+ Provides leadership for and assists staff through organizational change as needed.
Operations and Programs:
+ Works with the DFSA to determine faculty support needs and resource allocations, monitor workloads, identify problems, and suggest solutions.
+ Maintains and analyzes related data to identify opportunities for improvement.
+ Works with Human Resources on recruitment and onboarding, as well as employee relations, problem solving, and policy development and implementation.
+ Works with the DFSA to plan for coverage during time off as needed. Monitors timekeeping, overtime requests and absences Approves weekly time in system.
+ Collaborates with research administration and finance teams to ensure effective communication, information sharing, and compliance with SEAS and University policies.
+ Collaborates on high level projects and initiatives under the direction of the administrative deans and area chairs.
+ Co-manages a budget for supplies and events.
+ May create and manage content for the website and training materials in collaboration with faculty support administrative staff.
School-wide Activities:
+ Collaborates with SEAS leadership to streamline processes; leads process improvement projects.
+ Serves as a liaison between offices within SEAS and Harvard, and the faculty support team.
+ Serves as a backup for the DFSA as needed.
+ Responsible as an area budget approver in SEAS financial systems.
+ Represents the FSA team on SEAS committees.

Job Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Faculty Support and Administration (DFSA) at the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS), the Manager, Faculty Support and Administration (MFSA) is a critical part of the Faculty Support and Administration (FSA) management team. The FSA management team is responsible for the hiring, training, and management of 41 faculty support staff and assists approximately 147 faculty members with their administrative support needs. The MFSA manages a group of faculty support staff to provide exceptional support for faculty, their labs, and other members of the SEAS community. The MFSA works closely with other administrative offices at SEAS and will serve as an administrative liaison for internal and external constituents.
