Mondelēz International, Inc. (Mondelēz) is looking for a Public and Government Affairs (PGA) professional to join our DC-based Global Government Affairs (GA) team. Mondelēz empowers people to snack right in over 150 countries
around the world. We are leading the future of snacking with iconic global and local brands such as Oreo, Ritz, LU, Clif Bar, and Tate's Bake Shop biscuits and baked snacks, and Cadbury Dairy Milk, Milka, and Toblerone chocolate.
In this role, you will help develop and execute global PGA workstreams in concert with other members of the Global PGA team. You will support Mondelēz’s Vice President of Global GA and Corporate and Government Affairs (CGA) teams around the world in advocating for the company’s interests, enhancing its reputation, and engaging policy makers and influencers to shape government measures and initiatives material to our business.
**Overarching Role**
• Support Mondelēz’s Vice President of Global GA and partner with:
other members of the Global PGA team
+ Business/Commercial Unit (BU/CU) CGA teams in North and Latin America, Europe, Asia, the Middle
+ East, Africa,
+ other functions and sub-functions (e.g., Legal, Scientific and Regulatory Affairs, Nutrition, Impact/Sustainability, Tax).
• Help fashion global PGA strategy and execute the global PGA work program.
• Represent Mondelēz and advocate for its interests externally.
**Specific Responsibilities**
Policy/Political Foresight and Insight
• Partner with others on Mondelēz’s global and local CGA teams and external agencies, in monitoring government rulemaking and determining the impact on Mondelēz of government measures in three priority policy areas:
(1) nutrition, health, and well-being (government rules aimed at curbing consumption of certain types of
foods):
+ restrictions on marketing/advertising, placement, promotion, and sale,
+ targeted indirect taxes,
+ front-of-pack nutrition labeling requirements
(2) social and environmental sustainability:
+ ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) disclosure mandates
+ supply chain due diligence requirements
+ labor- and environment-related market access restrictions
+ taxes, bans, and extended producer responsibility schemes on plastic packaging waste
(3) license to operate:
+ price controls
+ taxes
+ trade rules
+ investment incentives
+ labor disciplines
• Help track and distill geopolitical developments relevant to Mondelēz’s business with a view to anticipating the direction of travel of policy in key markets.
• Review, summarize, and cascade media reports/articles, government publications, and think tank and trade association briefing papers on policy and political developments relevant to Mondelēz’s business.
**Advocacy Support and External Engagement**
• Help advance local CGA teams’ GA priorities, including by:
+ monitoring progress on annual and longer-term goals on advocacy priorities
+ engaging US-based and visiting foreign officials to supplement local teams’ outreach
+ capturing and cascading BU/CU teams’ advocacy successes
• Partner with other functions to gather and distill information relevant to Mondelēz’s policy agenda, including:
+ public- and private-sector initiatives aimed at addressing health and well-being challenges
+ state of play in global initiatives, e.g., the UN treaty negotiations on plastic waste
+ developments in international organizations, e.g., CODEX Alimentarius, World Health Organization
+ different legislative/regulatory approaches governments take in a specific policy area
• Advocate for Mondelēz’s interests and PGA priorities in engagements with:
+ Executive officials and legislators from around the world
+ international organization officials
+ thought leaders in think tanks and other expert bodies
• Represent Mondelēz and actively participate in:
+ trade associations
+ business coalitions
+ professional organizations
**Asset Development and Multi-market Projects**
• Assist in designing and socializing global enablers – playbooks, toolkits, narratives, templates, inventories,
methodologies – for BU/CU use in executing PGA strategies.
• Partner with other members of Global PGA team in fashioning and executing global and regional projects (workstreams with clearly defined missions and/or deliverables).
**Internal Networks and Programming**
• Develop programming for and participate in internal networks/meetings, including:
+ weekly meetings of the Global GA team
+ bi- monthly meetings of Global PGA Community of Practice
+ periodic PGA in the Spotlight sessions
+ bi-monthly discussions between the Vice President of Global GA and BU/CU CGA leads.
**Presentations and Other Written Materials**
• Fashion PowerPoint presentations for a variety of audiences, including senior leaders and multicultural teams.
• Draft briefers, background papers, and talking points.
**Qualifications and Skills**
• Graduate degree in international relations, business, law, economic policy, and/or sustainability policy.
• At least 8 years of government (public sector) and/or government affairs (private sector) work experience.
• Knowledge of policy issues relevant to the food industry.
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
• Ability to distill complex and lengthy material into simple, succinct summaries.
• Collaborative and proactive way of working, good people skills, and can-do attitude.
• Experience working with colleagues from a wide variety of cultures.
• Time-management and priority-setting skills, results-orientation, and attention to detail.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and change focus with shifting priorities.
• Facility with PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, and Excel.
The anticipated base salary range for this position is $92,800 to $127,600 ; the exact salary depends on several factors such as experience, skills, education, and budget. The salary range may vary based on geographic location. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for participation in a highly competitive bonus program with possibility for overachievement based on performance and company results. In addition, Mondelez Company offers a variety of benefits to eligible employees, including health insurance coverage, wellness and family support programs, life and disability insurance, retirement savings plans, paid leave programs, education related programs, paid holidays and vacation time, and many others.
