Purpose
Accountable for Global Risk Management (GRM) and Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) activities.
Accountable for all facets of the organization’s Commercial insurance and risk transfer programs, including associated risk engineering activities worldwide.
Participate in the continuous improvement of Newmont’s Enterprise Risk Management program, sustaining a network of risk management colleagues/practitioners within the Company
Responsible for internal and external relationships, including the development and management of “best in class” business level partnerships, with insurers, reinsurers, underwriters, brokers, third party adjusters, global insurance regulators, and risk engineering service providers.
Essential Duties
Ensure GRM functional activities are in support of Newmont Strategy Map and Leadership Objectives Achieve growth and developmental opportunities with a goal toward continual personal and departmental improvement Accountable for cost-effective insurance procurement that maintains best in industry coverage terms Participate in the selection and management of insurance broker partners Accountable for the ongoing, effective communications with Senior Management and across the organization to assure an understanding of current insurance programs and ERM data in order to establish appropriate risk retention levels Assist in support of GRM’s support of the Investment and Value Management program Work with the GRM team to support all Corporate Functions and Operating Regions on risk management issues, projects, reports, risk assessments, risk analysis, and exposure analysis Manage the ongoing development, governance, maintenance and training of the Global Risk Management Engineering Program. Coordinate and participate in Property Risk Assessments at all Operational Sites and Major Capital Projects. Develop solutions considering captive insurance company, NIL, to provide business solutions outside traditional insurance coverage Certify that insurance programs meet Newmont’s contractual obligations to third party stakeholders Ensure that all insurance programs comply with local country laws and regulatory requirements Perform annual review of all insurance programs to ensure that there are no redundancies or gaps in coverage that may affect our risk profile Prepare for meetings and presentations with our global underwriting partners Manage insurance claims and collaborate with internal and external legal counsel on the preparation, defense, and resolution of all claims matters Manage Newmont’s Third Party Claim Administrator (TPA) in order to drive down Workers Compensation costs Support management of the Owner Controlled Insurance Program (OCIP) in order to reduce insurance costs associated with Capital Projects and provide best in industry coverage for Owners and Contractors Partner with Legal and Global Supply Management to oversee the review of contracts Provide insurance and risk management training to contract administrators and others Provide leadership for the ERM program and to the Director- Enterprise Risk Management to further the development and implementation of Newmont’s global Enterprise Risk Management program Drive toward a Zero Harm culture within the Company by integrating Safety into all meetings/discussions pertaining to GRM activities Demonstrate a working knowledge of all risk management activities within the Company and be recognized as a Risk Champion for the organization Assist in the periodic update of the Risk Management Standard and Management System Procedure (MSP) by way of engaging with the Integrated Management System (IMS) project team Assist in the periodic update of the Country Risk Program with the Government Relations team
Training & Experience
Required: B.S. degree in Business Management, Risk Management, or related field and 8+ years of risk management experience
Preferred: Master’s Degree in Business, Risk Management or related field
Preferred: Professional certification (achieved or pursuimg): ARMe, CIC, CPCU, CRM, CPA, CMA, MBA or other similar
Applicant should have excellent analytical capabilities and interpersonal skills.
Working Conditions
Must be willing to travel domestically and internationally at short notice. Must be on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Must be able to visit/inspect Newmont’s global operations. Positon may be required to travel to and assist with other domestic and international sites.
