Job Description Position Overview The Engineering Manager - HVDC Engineering, reporting to the Director of HVDC Engineering, will oversee engineering activities to support project development and HVDC converter station non-power conversion system design and construction. This position works within the HVDC and Transmission Engineering Teams to support the development, design, and construction of Invenergy’s pipeline of HVDC converter stations. Duties and Responsibilities + Oversee converter station engineering activities performed by the EPC contractor and OEM for the converter station parcel and converter station BOP equipment. + Review grading drawings and design for HVDC infrastructure. + Manage and lead soil mechanics and geotechnical investigations for HVDC infrastructure. + Manage and lead design for roads and accesses. + Manage project site layout and design + Manage development of auxiliary systems and interfaces for HVDC converter stations: auxiliary power, water, sewer, etc. + Propose and manage consultants to support Invenergy’s efforts. + Support development of construction QA/QC and commissioning plans. + Review converter station design packages. + Review hydrology studies and conceptual site layout, grading, drainage, stormwater management, accessibility, and roadway plans. + Manage design interfaces between the converter station and other project scopes. + Review main structural design packages to ensure compliance with codes and standards and propose optimizations based on project requirements, equipment specifications and other constraints. + Review design packages for foundations, supports, and any other miscellaneous structures. + Prepare and review construction specifications and exhibits to be included in converter station EPC agreements. + Review technical proposals from contractors for various construction scopes of work. + Review other third-party engineering design packages for conformance to project specifications, building codes, construction standards, contractual requirements and value engineering. + Collaborate with internal teams to provide value engineering opinions. + Review, create, and maintain construction specifications. + Assist the Permitting team with input to prepare federal, state, county, and local permits. + Support the Commercial and Development teams in the preparation of project sales proposals. + Support Construction Project Management with cost estimates and other required information to prepare schedules and financial models. + Support Financing by responding to lender and independent engineer due diligence questions. + Communicate effectively with internal teams, engineering consultants, contractors, and clients. + Travel up to 25%. Basic Qualifications + Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering + Familiarity with various state and local codes related to EM&CP plan for environmental compliance, materials management, storm water pollution plan, interfaces to permits agencies, noise control plan, etc. + Experience with at least three of the following: + Utility/Power plant project construction. + Substation/Switchyard construction and commissioning + SWPPP design/implementation in conjunction with large scale grading plans. + Industrial/utility project development. + Design and review process of structures and foundations. + Preparation of RFP and bidding processes to select consultants and contractors. + 5+ years of relevant work experience. + Proficient in Microsoft Office. + Valid driver’s license + Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future. Preferred Skills + Master’s degree in engineering. + 10+ years of utility project experience + PE License + Experience in the interpretation and review of geotechnical reports, and coordination with geotechnical engineering firms. + Experience with civil and structural building codes (UBC, IBC, EC, ISO, etc.), civil engineering standards (ASCE, AASHTO, AISC, AWS, etc.) and other design specifications. + Experience and knowledge of FEM based software and science + HVDC construction and maintenance experience is a plus. + Experience with state fire department codes and standards for building design is a plus + Any HVDC auxiliary system construction interface experience is a plus along with utility interconnection construction discussions for trench, metering, etc. Benefits Eligible for medical, dental, vision, 401(k), bonus, paid time off, etc. Invenergy LLC is an equal opportunity employer.
